We are a private, non-profit local chapter of The Arc of Maryland and The Arc of The United States, the largest volunteer organization in the world devoted exclusively to improving the quality of life for all adults and children with developmental disabilities.

Description

Job Title: Accounting Services Clerk

Department: Finance

FLSA status: Non-exempt

Reports to: Director of Finance

Essential Status: Non-Essential

Position Summary:

This position is responsible for the provision and maintenance of routine accounting functions for the support of the Benefit Coordination Program and the Accounting department. This position will also be responsible for assisting in the coordination of entitlements and community resources for individuals served.

In a manner consistent with supporting The Arc NCR Mission Statement the Accounting Services Liaison shall do the following:

  • Support individuals served to effectively access, manage, coordinate and maintain records regarding entitlement benefits and community resources
  • Update individual records and resource database with information in a timely and thorough manner (i.e. Housing, Food Nutrition Program, Medicaid redetermination, wages)
  • Assist individuals served with effectively managing and monitoring Housing, Food Nutrition and health care resources.
  • Obtain information on new resource information as requested
  • Assist individuals served with managing taxes and record keeping of tax information.
  • Gather all appropriate information from individuals to prepare tax returns
  • Maintain copies of tax returns and any supporting documentation needed in accordance with IRS regulations
  • Annually update Medicare.gov and review Part D prescription programs available for individual in Supported Living
  • Assist with resolving health care problems
  • Provide assistance regarding community resources and entitlements to both individuals served and agency personnel in an accurate and timely manner
  • Provide routine or as needed accounting supports that contribute to the effective functioning of the Accounting Department
  • Develop and maintain a current and thorough knowledge of Health care and community resources (i.e. Housing, Food Nutrition program. Medicare, Medicaid, dental)
  • Complete, maintain and submit required reports and documentation in a timely manner
  • Maintain strong and timely communication of financial information related to individuals served
  • Ensure that all applications for new resources and redeterminations are done in an accurate and timely fashion.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to perform successfully the essential functions of this position. Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this position, the employee will be expected to operate successfully certain office equipment but not limited to: desktop PC, laptop computer, printers, scanners, and copiers. An employee in this position must be able to lift up to 25 pounds, demonstrate approved physical intervention techniques (BPS training methods) and demonstrate CPR.

An employee in this position will be required to maintain records related to the position. He or she will be required to have sufficient mobility to supervise staff, attend meetings inside and outside the office; he or she will be required to have sufficient fine motor skills to use a keyboard and telephone, handle, manipulate and retrieve documents pertinent to the position. This employee is required to hear (with or without hearing devices), speak (with or without associated devices), and see (with or without corrective lenses).

Other Requirements:

  • Access to reliable transportation
  • Active valid driver's license and driving record that has no more than two (2) points.
  • Maintenance of all required trainings under DDA guidelines and The Arc Nothern Chesapeake Region policies and procedures.
  • Flexibility of scheduling to meet agency and program needs.
