Communications Project Coordinator 


Position Objective:

To cultivate relationships and fundraising opportunities with celebrities and notable people from the world of film, television, theater, the arts, sports, literature, music, and politics as well as from the local community. And to provide support to PETA's Animals in Film & Television (AFTV) division, which works to end the abuse and exploitation of animals used for film and television, encouraging filmmakers to employ the stunning and realistic alternatives that exist today, such as CGI, and urging writers to make sure that scripts promote pro-animal messages and don’t call for the use of live animals.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

• Cultivate relationships with targeted and prospective celebrity donors for the purpose of procuring items for PETA’s online auction
• Draft correspondences, letters, and other materials
• Research and brainstorm opportunities for auction experiences and items
• Perform research in support of the Animals in Film & Television division’s projects
• Track and review news, industry trades and databases, and other celebrity and film/television-focused publications and websites
• Maintain and update contact lists and databases; file external correspondences and research
• Record and distribute meeting notes
• Stay up to date on exclusive events, movie premieres, parties, etc.
• Liaise with auction platforms, winners, and celebrities
• Maintain PETA’s AFTV whistleblower hotline
• Handle gifting to industry contacts
• Track upcoming film releases, television premieres, and film festivals
• Attend events, conferences, and movie screenings related to the entertainment industry on PETA’s behalf
• Work with key senior staff members to create pitch and campaign ideas
• Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor

Position Requirements

• Degree in a related field or equivalent experience
• Minimum two years of fundraising and project coordinating experience
• Minimum two years of experience working with celebrities
• Experience working with online fundraising platforms such as Charitybuzz, Omaze, Prizeo, and/or eBay preferred
• Experience developing and maintaining professional relationships
• Proven interest in and excellent working knowledge of entertainment industry culture, including an interest in film and television and celebrities
• Thorough knowledge of Microsoft programs, including Excel, Word, and Outlook
• Demonstrated effective online research skills
• Exceptional persuasive and explanatory written and verbal communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to make sound judgments, work both independently and a part of a team, while maintaining strict confidentiality at all times
• Proven ability to deal with a wide range of people in a professional manner
• Proven excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
• Proven ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines
• Must be at least 21 years of age and have a valid U.S. driver's license, a minimum of three years of driving experience, and a satisfactory driving record
• Professional appearance and adherence to a healthy vegan lifestyle
• Support for PETA's philosophy and the ability to professionally advocate PETA's positions on issues
• Commitment to the objectives of the organization
