Description

SUMMARY
The City of South Bend has created a new department, Venues, Parks and Arts including an Experience Division, the creative group of VPA driving events, development, promotion, and community outreach. We are seeking inspired individuals who thrive in an open, creative office space that fosters collaboration, promotes innovation, and allows efficient exchanges of information.

Provides leadership, strategy direction, management, and coordination of all fundraising and stakeholder engagement activities for the Venues, Parks and Arts Department.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Responsible for overseeing office functions and supervision of staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This list represents the types of duties required by the position. Other duties may be assigned as reasonably expected.
• Serves as a leader in developing and executing strategic fundraising initiatives, working with the Executive Director, Experience Director, senior and program staff, board members and other key leaders for the Department.
• Develops comprehensive annual and long-term development plans that include major gifts, corporate support, foundation support/grants or other event fundraising.
• Establishes financial goals for the department and develops a comprehensive fundraising program to include corporate, individual, and foundation giving.
• Administers the South Bend Parks Foundation and Morris Entertainment Inc. Boards
• Develops and administers fund raising campaigns, partnerships, and sponsorships.
• Develops and coordinates community outreach programs that consist of community volunteer programs, park foundations, neighborhood associations, and special interest groups.
• Identifies and cultivates new prospects; ensures that a robust portfolio of prospective major gift donors are being contacted and visited by the Executive Director, board members, key staff leaders and the Development team.
• Works collaboratively with the marketing department to develop marketing activities and partnerships to support and enhance fundraising performance.
• Trains and directs the staff of the Development Unit.
• Coordinates grant writing and all other funding solicitations by the parks staff.

NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Assumes additional responsibilities as requested.
• Participates in special events.
• Develops operating and capital budgets.

Position Requirements

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor Degree in Marketing, Business Administration, Public Administration, or Parks and Recreation.
• Five to seven years’ experience in fundraising, program development, staff supervision, and public relations.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES PREFERRED
• Excellent managerial and supervisory abilities, effective, organizational, analytical, interpersonal, problem solving, leadership, and oral & written communication skills.
• Ability to organize, plan, and prioritize work, developing specific goals and plans to accomplish work.
• Ability to coordinate the work and activities of others including motivating members of a team to work together to accomplish tasks.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Suites.
• Working knowledge of City or County government a plus.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
• Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Copy Machine, Fax Machine, Computer, Telephone, Calculator.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in an open, creative office space that fosters collaboration, promotes innovation and allows efficient exchanges of information. Work space will consist of open offices and meeting spaces that encourage interaction and group work.  Entire office is smoke free.
