About the Organization KMHS is Kitsap's nonprofit, designated community mental health provider for adults with acute and/or chronic serious mental illnesses, and children with serious emotional disturbances and their families. During 2016, KMHS provided services to more than 6,800 children and adults.

Inpatient, residential, and outpatient treatment services offer evidence-based treatment, using trauma informed care to help people reach their recovery goals. Provide on-going, individually-tailored educational services for clients enrolled in the Day Treatment program, provide assistance in the implementation of milieu program, and participate as a milieu team member.


  • Develop and conduct instructional activities, which are designed to meet the individual educational needs of each client, including appropriate opportunity for 1:1 assistance as necessary to meet the objectives outlines in the IEP.
  • Develop and implement an Individualized Educational Plan for each client enrolled in the Day Treatment program, with curriculum plans that include appropriate levels of remediation in core subject areas and proposed outcomes necessary for transition. Review and amend the IEP for each client as appropriate and on a timely basis.
  • In collaboration with other treatment team members, assist in the development of an individual treatment/behavior plan for clients enrolled in the Day Treatment program as necessary. Assist in the implementation of behavioral/intervention plans as outlined in the treatment plan.
  • Assist other program staff in providing a positive, structured, and therapeutic environment in which the emotional, developmental, and educational needs of the clients can be met. Work with other team members to maintain an aesthetically pleasing and therapeutic environment.
  • Insure that appropriate educational materials and instructions are available to the day treatment staff in the event an absence is necessary.
  • Insure that adequate instructional materials are prepared and available in a timely manner.
  • In coordination with the day treatment staff help facilitate as appropriate flow of information in support of the transition process to and from Madrona Day Treatment.
  • Administer pre/post admission diagnostic testing and ongoing achievement testing as necessary.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of positive, collaborative relationships with KMHS programs, school district personnel, and other public or private agencies, in order to provide as essential level of care for clients, and to further and enhance the overall mission and goals of the agency.
  • Insure that all paperwork is completed in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Participate in any meetings, case consultations, program staff meetings, and admission/discharge planning meetings as necessary.
  • Drive and transport clients for daily school activities, field trips, or other activities as necessary.
  • In addition to the above, any other responsibilities appropriate to the position and not specifically listed in the job description.
Position Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Bachelor or Masters Degree in Special Education required.  Certification in special education required.  Certification in elementary education preferred.  Experience working with emotionally and/or behaviorally disabled children and their families.  Experience working with children within the structure of an intensive, milieu based program preferred.  Ability to develop Individualized Educational Plans.  Ability to administer, score, and interpret achievement and diagnostic tests.  Ability to work independently and as part of a team.  Current driver’s license and valid insurance required.

PHYSICAL CONSSIDERATION:  While performing the duties of the job, the employee is required to stand, walk, use hands to grasp and to finger or handle, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk or listen. Requires the ability to lift up 50 pounds. This position requires peripheral vision. This position may require working in an outdoor setting.
