This is your opportunity to join a dynamic Education team at Woodland Park Zoo. Applications are now being accepted for Community Engagement Liaison on the Community Engagement team. There is one limited duration (through October 31, 2019) grant funded full-time, benefited position to be filled at this time. The salary is $19/ hr. plus a competitive benefits package.
The Community Engagement Liaison will focus on our Seattle Youth Climate Action Network program and work with staff, teen leaders, and community partners to further our efforts to empower Seattle-area youth to address climate change in our community through education, leadership and action. This position is responsible for coordinating all aspects of the Seattle Youth Climate Action Network (SYCAN), which includes supporting internal and external communications, scheduling meetings and events, meeting facilitation, planning and coordinating year round activities for teens and community, and assisting with grant logistics.
This position serves as a key role in supporting the departments work to increase access and inclusion for underserved communities through partnerships and the SYCAN program goals. Responsibilities of this position include promotion and outreach communications to ensure that program opportunities reach a broad, diverse audience of potential participants. This position works in close collaboration with the Community Engagement Supervisor, SYCAN Steering Committee members, SYCAN Youth Leadership Committee members, as well as other zoo staff and community partners.
The idea candidate will have experience in project coordination, group facilitation, youth development programing, climate change education and/or climate justice work, and community engagement with diverse audiences.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinate Seattle Youth Climate Action Network program functions, events, logistics and activities
- Serve as lead staff for specialists, instructors/presenters, and youth interns.
- Work with stakeholders to build a program structure that supports youth-led projects and programming.
- Mentor and support teens in SYCAN
- Schedule and present engaging programs, events, experiences and activities to teens and audiences of all ages on and off zoo grounds.
- Coordinate, develop and facilitate trainings for teens, volunteers and program participants.
- Coordinate research, development, revision and dissemination of program supporting materials
- Perform program communications, including email, texting, social media, and web development and maintenance
- Support supervisory team in maintenance of internal and external partnerships
- Build and maintain relationships with teens and community partners
- Use Asset Based Community Development tools to support the group process of the Steering Committee and the Youth Leadership Team
- Conduct outreach and recruitment in diverse communities in the Seattle area
- Integrate an equity framework into all aspects of programming
- Perform necessary administrative work, including tracking and managing program data, recording meeting minutes, etc.
- Support with fundraising and donor relations
- Support evaluation of programs and project elements.
- Collect and report statistics and prepare reports.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree (B. A. or B.S.) from an accredited four-year college or university and 2 years related experience or four to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Valid Washington State Driver License
Proficient and experienced with Microsoft Office applications; particularly Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. Must be able to work with customized databases and technology, and conduct Internet research.

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
