Come work where you can see the sun set over the valley and lizards scurry along the paths. As an Evening shift, Reserve Status Custodian you will be able to hear the coyotes yip and the owls hoot, take a moment to watch the bats fly, or admire the star-filled sky as you make your rounds at the Desert Museum. As a part of our Custodial team you'll be working to maintain the natural beauty of our desert and ensure that our guests enjoy safe and memorable visits to the Museum.

What does Reserve status mean? Reserve status employees may work, on average, 20 hours or less per week. We are open every day of the year, so you will need to be available to work most weekends and holidays. But, as a staff perk you will get a free Desert Museum membership, amazing views, and special discounts. Our evening Custodial crew usually works from 1:30 PM to 10:00 PM, but hours may occasionally vary slightly due to operational needs. Since parts of your shift may be outdoors, you will be regularly exposed to weather conditions and there is limited outdoor lighting.

Position Description

Reports To: Custodial Manager
Wage: $11.00/hour

Summary
Keeps Museum buildings and grounds in clean and orderly condition by performing the following duties:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Cleans external and internal areas of buildings including dusting, polishing, sweeping, mopping, stripping and waxing floors.
  • Cleans and disinfects restrooms including toilets and fixtures.
  • Cleans all glass inside and out.
  • Set-up of furniture and equipment for meetings and events as necessary.
  • Vacuum, spot clean, shampoo, and extracts carpets.
  • Launders linen and makes Guest House ready for guests.
  • Replenishes supplies in restrooms, closets, and kitchens.
  • Empties wastebaskets and garbage containers and transports waste to disposal area.
  • Empties all recycle containers, and transports recyclables to recycling area.
  • Cleans debris, removes all debris and gum from all sidewalk and patio areas using brooms, walk-behind sweeper, blower, and/or hose.
  • Cleans and stocks soda machines, removes outdated sodas.
  • Cleans and disposes of bio-hazards
  • Cleans up floods and other emergencies.
  • Reports all repairs needed throughout the grounds to supervisor for repair.

Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Valid Arizona Driver's License required.

Language Skills
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have the ability to be trained to perform basic data entry for timekeeping and e-mail purposes.
