Description

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support Managers and Supervisors with OH&S program document requirements
  • Monitor and investigate unresolved OH&S issues
  • Investigate incident, accident or near-miss reports; including spills, vehicle or equipment damage
  • Prepare reports of root cause and analysis and implement safety measures and recommendations
  • Experience completing internal and external OH&S Audits
  • Advisor on legislation and regulatory issues at JOHSC and safety meetings
  • Ensure WCB modified work requirements are understood and enforced. Implement the modified work program with employees who have encountered a work related injury
  • Perform daily workplace inspections and ensure corrective measures are met to achieve compliance
  • Facilitate company orientations and project site safety orientations
  • Mentor Supervisors and employee with coaching of hazard recognition and control tools (i.e. Last Minute Risk Assessment, Behavior Based Safety, Modified Work Planning)
  • Presentations to management teams on current safety statistics and industry related safety topics at quarterly safety meetings
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently
  • Maintain site safety records and project statistics
  • Prepare safety memos and flashes to bring awareness to onsite safety hazards
  • Provide monthly reports which reflect first aids, medical aids, near-misses, lost time injuries
  • Develop Safe Work Practices (SWP) and Safe Job Procedures (SJP) with various trades
  • Collectively prepare Job Hazard Analysis (JHA’s) for critical and routine tasks
  • Public speaking to large groups with respect to OH&S related topics
  • Prepare appropriate WCB Forms and monitor/schedule appointments associated with claim
  • Liaise with WCB and employees to effectively manage claims filed within NS
  • This position will start in the next four weeks for the Pictou County area. There will also be work on an as needed basis in Halifax and Dartmouth.

 
Position Requirements
  • 2 - 3 years’ experience in OHS
  • Working towards or interested in achieving a safety designation
  • High commitment to safe work practices
  • Possess working knowledge OHS principles, practices and legislation
  • Post-secondary diploma or certificate in OHS is an asset
  • Excellent communications, presentation and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with all levels of organization
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
