About the Organization KMHS is Kitsap's nonprofit, designated community mental health provider for adults with acute and/or chronic serious mental illnesses, and children with serious emotional disturbances and their families. During 2016, KMHS provided services to more than 6,800 children and adults.

Inpatient, residential, and outpatient treatment services offer evidence-based treatment, using trauma informed care to help people reach their recovery goals. We offer whole person care through mental health and substance use treatment and care management, close care coordination with on-campus and community-based primary care providers, and with partner PCHS, now offer dental care to KMHS clients and the community. Many community partners assure people receive behavioral health care in the right place, in the right way, at the right time. Together we are weaving a web that connects emergency room and hospitals, substance abuse treatment, and primary care providers; creates partnerships for early intervention at home and school, supports multiple law enforcement, jail, and justice endeavors, and works to ensure housing, food, and other social supports together with social service agencies and community collaborations.

Provide therapy services for children and adolescents enrolled in the school program. Assist with development and implementation of one-on-one and small group intensive behavioral interventions. Create and facilitate lessons around emotional, behavioral, and physical health.


  • Provide effective and efficient clinical services, using best practice standards including Trauma Informed Care, to children and families enrolled in the school program.
  • Provide a positive, structured, and therapeutic classroom milieu in which the emotional, developmental, and educational needs of the children can be met. Work closely with team members to maintain a therapeutic environment based upon Circle of Courage curriculum, Re-ED treatment model, Trauma Informed Care, and other evidence-based practices.
  • Complete and maintain all required appropriate clinical and administrative records in a timely manner, using Collaborative Documentation when appropriate.
  • Provide outreach services, as clinically indicated, to clients and their parents/guardians. Collaborate with schools, social service agencies and other providers to ensure continuity and quality of care. This may include a direct collaboration with Bremerton School District.
  • Utilizes Evidence Based Practice to provide relevant one-on-one therapy to students enrolled in the school program. Provide family therapy as indicated.
  • To develop and implement one-on-one and small group intensive behavioral interventions. To create and facilitate lessons around emotional, behavioral, and physical health.
  • Develops and uses behavior intervention plans in conjuncture with teacher, and other program staff. Exercises constant supervision of children.
  • To be an active member of the treatment team that creates and monitors compliance with Individualized Education Plans for each student.
  • Provides academic direction to individual students in remedial and individualized academic and vocational subjects to support teachers' lessons. Assembles developmentally appropriate instructional aids and exercises to support the therapy and subject matter being taught.
  • Function as a supportive member of the program team and participate constructively in problem solving.
  • Provide crisis intervention services when necessary.

Position Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree in Social Work, counseling/psychology or related field required. Two years of experience working with children and families preferred. Experience working within a classroom environment containing students with special needs preferred. Early Childhood intervention experience preferred. Spanish language fluency preferred. Child Mental Health Specialist and Washington License (LICSW, LMFT or LMHC) preferred. Possess and maintain valid driver’s license with an acceptable motor vehicle report and reliable, insured transportation. Adherence to the FBI fingerprinting requirement. Required to complete CPR/First Aid training and Food Handler’s permit upon hire.

PHYSICAL CONSIDERATIONS: While performing the duties of the job, the employee is required to stand, walk, use hands to grasp and to finger or handle, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk or listen. Requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds. This position requires peripheral vision. This position may require working in an outdoor setting, and walking on uneven terrain. A significant degree of flexibility and strength is required in this position due to the infrequent, yet essential, use of ProACT principles of physical restraint of some clients.
