POSITION SUMMARY

The Digital Image Scanning Technician will support a government library by performing technical services support including inventory, scanning, digitization, distributing library materials, performing document delivery/interlibrary loan duties, and performing other duties as assigned.

General Description of Duties:

  1. Conduct material pre-scan assessment
  2. Prepare materials for processing, image capture and scanning

  3. Capture and digitize material images

  4. Perform image cropping, retouching and tiling

  5. Ensure proper data handling and file management

  6. Perform routine library collection and possibly preservation work

  7. Perform document delivery/interlibrary loan duties using DOCLINE and ILLiad

  8. Contributes to keeping accurate metrics

  9. Inventories library materials

  10. Assist patrons in the use of library catalogs, databases, and indexes to locate articles and other materials

  11. Check prices on all print and non-print library materials.

  12. Process interlibrary loans for patrons.

  13. Answer routine telephone or in-person reference inquiries, referring patrons to librarians for further assistance, when necessary.

  14. Retrieve information from central databases for storage in a library's computer.

  15. Remove or repair damaged books or other media

  16. Follow library rules, regulations, and procedures

  17. Collaborate with Librarians to arrange for the safe storage of historical records and documents

  18. Troubleshoot problems with library equipment including computers, photocopiers, and audiovisual equipment.

  19. Ability to follow directions closely and carefully and work on a team

  20. Operate audiovisual equipment such as projectors, tape recorders, and videocassette recorders.

And perform other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: High school diploma, some college preferred

Experience: Some library experience preferred, 3+ years of experience handling and working with digital images or the like. Self-starter with the ability to complete tasks with minimal supervision. Ability to organize and prioritize workloads and meet deadlines. Good oral and written professional communication skills in English.

Skills: Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Scanning, Microsoft Office, Knowledge of Library of Congress Classification schema, and ILLiad.

Unique Requirements: Local travel between worksites may be required.

CITIZENSHIP REQUIREMENTS

US Citizenship is a requirement for this position. Candidate may be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Security clearances are a plus.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, and use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds. All applicants will be required to consent to a pre-employment drug screening and may be subject to random testing thereafter.
