GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Provide an opportunity to gain experience in the field of emergency management/public administration. The internship should strengthen area(s) where the student is lacking in real-world knowledge and experience. Interns will participate in project planning and implementation, develop and update emergency management plans, and work inside the Emergency Operations Center during activations.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTONS:
Assis Assist in developing, reviewing and updating various emergency management plans. Conduct post-event reviews of real-world incidents and exercises. Assist in tracking and implementing corrective actions. Assist with providing emergency planning assistance to healthcare providers. Assist in promoting a 'culture of preparedness' to the public. Participate in training and networking opportunities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: - Data entry, communications skills and database management.
- Understanding of Microsoft Office.
- IS-100 “Introduction to ICS”
- IS-700 “Introduction to NIMS”
- IS-800 “National Response Framework”
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: - Students must have a focus in Emergency Management, Public Safety, Public Administration or Public Health.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS: - Valid Florida Driver's License and driving record acceptable to insurance provider.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS: - Acceptable vision (with or without correction)
- Acceptable hearing (with or without correction)
- Ability to sit or stand or walk for long periods of time.
- Lifting equipment up to 25 lbs alone; up to 50 lbs with assistance.
- Must be able to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing.
ENVIRONMENT CONDITIONS: - Routinely works normal office hours, but must be prepared to work flexible hours (including nights, weekends, and holidays) or overtime when required due to emergencies.
- Occasionally works impacted areas during emergency situations
- Perform duties under varying, and possible extreme, weather conditions
- Requires some local travel to perform assessments or attend meetings
- May be required to attend out-of-town seminars/training of overnight or longer duration..
