Field HSE Advisor

  • Establishes a supporting role with management in assigned areas.
  • Designs programs that align with OSHA requirements in order to reduce incidents, injuries, equipment damage and near misses. Tasks may be assigned to other employees to achieve safety in the workplace.
  • Evaluates trends of incidents, injuries, and near misses that have occurred within the industry, Orion Drilling Company, and the assigned work area, specifically. If an incident trend occurs, the advisor is required to participate in investigations and take preventative measures. Maintains HSE performance reporting data for their assigned work area.
  • Oversees assign work areas and provides support for personnel training, safety inspections/follow-ups, and other HSE activities related to the company, client, or regulatory compliance. The advisor works with department managers/supervisors to offer employee mentoring, coaching and guidance in making safe choices while working to foster an incident and injury free workplace.
  • Ensures the Company maintains compliance with all local, state and federal regulations, and stays informed on proposed regulation changes and emphasis and focus programs. The advisor is the contact for agency inspections and inquires.
  • Required to help facilitate, train, and present materials on HSE performance, incidents, and trend analysis data at Company crew engagement sessions.
  • Must be train the trainer for forklift, manlift, & catwalk to be able to provide training in the areas needed.
  • Case manages incidents in assigned areas and assists in other areas as needed. Conducts investigation with HSE and operations team and keeps supervisor up-to-date as new information is discovered.
  • Demonstrates leadership by inspiring and motivating others within the HSE department.
  • Gives periodic feedback to HSE peers and employees and leaders within their assigned work areas on matters that affect sustaining a world-class safety culture.
  • Other tasks may be assigned as needed.
Position Requirements


  • Education and Training – An Associate’s Degree in Safety or 5-7 years related experience; or a combination of education and experience is acceptable. A Certified Occupational Safety Specialist (COSS) or higher is required.
  • Basic Skills - Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Physical Demands - While performing the duties of this Job, the Employee must complete and pass standard Human Performance Evaluation. It is a muscular skeletal standard requirements evaluation including Lifting, Carrying, Pushing and Pulling. here is also a job specific requirement evaluation as noted below:
  • Ladder Climbs
  • Nuts and bolts assembling
  • Additionally, job specific requirements evaluation must be successfully completed: Ladder (2) and Nuts and Bolts Working Conditions – This job is normally in a field setting and the noise level varies depending on location; however on occasion the employee will be exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places and outside weather conditions where noise is moderate. Must be willing to travel at least 50% of the time.
