OVERVIEW
Applies to all activities and guidelines performed by the Mechanical Engineer. The primary purpose of the Mechanical Engineer is to research, plan and design mechanical and electromechanical products and systems to meet requirements, applying knowledge of engineering principles by performing the following duties. This job description shall be reviewed as needed.
RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Researches and analyzes data such as customer design proposal, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application.
  • Designs mechanical and structural components for drilling rigs, such as mud systems, substructures, masts, and draw works.
  • Plans and directs engineering personnel in fabrication of test control apparatus and equipment, and development of methods and procedures for testing products or systems.
  • Directs and coordinates fabrication and installation activities to ensure products and systems conform to engineering design and customer specifications.
  • Designs products and systems to interface machines, hardware, and software.
  • Confer with engineers or other personnel to implement operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions, or provide technical information.
  • Conduct research that tests or analyzes the feasibility, design, operation, or performance of equipment, components, or systems.
  • Investigate equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose faulty operation, and to make recommendations to maintenance crew.
  • Resolves problems using solutions that involve new techniques, technologies, or concepts.
  • Other tasks may be assigned as needed.

  • Education and Training – A Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent from a four year college or university; or 2-3 years’ experience or training in Oil Field Construction or Fabrication; or a combination of education and experience or as deemed sufficient by management.
  • Skills - Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Physical Demands - While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Working Conditions - This job is normally in an office setting and the noise level is quiet; however on occasion the employee will be exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places and outside weather conditions where noise is moderate. This position is required to travel to on site locations as needed.
