About the Organization KMHS is Kitsap's nonprofit, designated community mental health provider for adults with acute and/or chronic serious mental illnesses, and children with serious emotional disturbances and their families. During 2016, KMHS provided services to more than 6,800 children and adults.

Provide nursing care and medical supervision to clients and residents in all units of 24-Hours Services (Adult Inpatient Unit, Youth Inpatient Unit, and Residential Services). Participate as a member of the therapeutic treatment team.


In accordance with the Washington State Nurse Practice Act

  • Maintain ongoing examination, monitoring and assessment of clients and residents in the Adult Inpatient Unit, the Youth Inpatient Unit, and Residential Services. Determine in collaboration with the Inpatient Physician if clients and residents are medically stable in order to provide care within the scope of practice of 24-Hours Services at KMHS.
  • Attend Treatment Team meetings and communicate with Providers. Process and implement Provider orders.
  • Document client and resident care, medication, and treatment administration. Document and relay client and resident progress and mental health goal attainment. Evaluate and monitor client responses to medication, treatments, and plans of care.
  • Administer medications and treatment in accordance with Nursing standards of safety and accuracy. Delegate and monitor performance of Residential Counselors.
  • Initiate emergency procedures using technical skills and professional judgment. Perform appropriate emergency Nursing care.
  • Orient and mentor new Nursing staff and On-Call R.N.s.
  • Review laboratory reports and relay abnormal results to Providers. Observe for responses to medications, and perform ongoing Nursing assessments.
  • Coordinate with the Shift Supervisor for unit safety and other client or resident needs.
  • Develop Nursing Discharge Plan in collaboration with Treatment Team to include coordination with Outpatient Nurses.
  • Participate in program activities as team member.
  • Respond to current fire drill/evacuation plan with awareness of duties and procedure.
  • Adhere to unit operating and Nursing policies and procedures.
  • Serve as Mental Health Professional if qualified.
  • Provide flexible Nursing coverage. Maintain proficiency in Nursing roles in all units of 24-Hours Services at KMHS.
  • Disclose limited client information as necessary to the position as trained by the Records Dept. Supervisor. Disclosures must adhere to HIPAA privacy and security standards and be logged in detail according to agency policy and procedures. Complete all required training and annual refreshers.
  • In addition to the above, any other responsibilities appropriate to the position and not specifically listed in the job description.
Position Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Registered Nurse in Washington State.  Two years RN experience preferred.  Two years experience in mental health preferred.  Experience in child and adolescent care preferred. Experience in psychiatric environment preferred.

PHYSICAL CONSIDERATIONS:  While performing the duties of the job, the employee is required to stand, sit, use hands and fingers, reach with hands and arms, talk or listen and lift up to 50 pounds.  Peripheral vision is also required for this position.  A fair degree of flexibility and strength is required in this position due to the infrequent, yet essential, use of one’s body in the temporary physical restraint of some clients.

Salary $31.00 per hour plus shift differentials
