Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory (SHC) is a Lasallian Vincentian Catholic, co-educational college preparatory secondary school located in the heart of San Francisco, California. We provide academically rigorous, vibrant learning grounded in social justice and student centered pedagogy. Our entire community is committed to cultivating each student's unique talents and passions, providing myriad opportunities for students to discern and realize their individual intellectual, artistic, athletic, social, and spiritual potential. SHC is a San Francisco Archdiocesan High School that is cosponsored by the De La Salle Christian Brothers, District of San Francisco New Orleans and the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul, Province of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton.

Position Summary: 60% to 100% FTE. Ideal candidate: HR gereralist willing to work 3 to 5 days a week.

The Human Resource Director is an individual contributor role for an employee base of approximately 150 employees. This position will report jointly to the President and Principal of SHC, and work closely with school leadership as well as the faculty and staff. The position reflects a unique combination of tactical hands-on responsibilities as well as a strategic focus with all aspects of human resource management. The successful candidate will be an administrative expert as well as a positive change agent focusing on building a culture of excellence and supporting strong, productive and professional relationships across the institution. The Director of Human Resources will contribute to achieving the strategic priorities for SHC and inspire confidence and trust in the human resources function as SHC’s best-practice and subject matter expert.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Administer programs that cover the “lifecycle” of an employee, from recruitment to onboarding to performance management to leaves of absence to termination;

  • Proactively anticipate, address, and effectively resolve complex and sensitive employee relations and interpersonal conflict issues including unusual situations where precedents for resolution may not be available;

  • Develop and administer policies and practices that are compliant with local, state, and federal labor laws and regulations, including but not limited to wage and hour, HCSO, FMLA, COBRA, PDL, PFL benefits;

  • Manage employee benefits program including medical, dental and vision plans, including Open Enrollments as well as pension, 403b, leaves of absence, workers’ compensation and health and welfare administration issues;

  • Partner with Finance on budgeting, compensation and payroll related issues.

  • Contribute to training and professional and career development;

  • Become well versed with the Collective Bargaining Agreement (The San Francisco Archdiocesan Federation of Teachers, Local 2240, American Federation of Teachers, AFL-CIO) and provide support and assistance to administration in resolving any issues involving employees covered by the agreement;

  • Manage and execute the investigation and resolution of grievances, allegations, charges and complaints for employees who do not fall under the umbrella of the CBA;

  • Assume a lead role in process improvement and related projects to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the human resources function;

  • Research, develop and administer all aspects of sound human resource policies, programs and practices that contribute to developing a culture of professionalism, excellence, trust, and fairness;

  • Create, manage, and/or utilize human resource information management systems, including employee paper and electronic files, databases, and reporting systems;

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive performance management system that is relevant, constructive, and fair, and reflects the values, culture, and priorities of SHC;

  • Collaborate with other stakeholders who have a vested interest in SHC including the Christian Brothers, Daughters of Charity, and the Archdiocese of San Francisco;

  • Model and advance the Lasallian Vincentian Catholic educational mission of the school in working with others.

  • Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion and demonstrate the highest level of customer/client service and response;

  • Demonstrated ability to achieve high performance goals and meet deadlines in a fast paced environment;

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills; pleasant, warm demeanor;

Certifications and/or Licensure
Senior Professional Human Resources (SPHR) preferred

Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in human resource management/industrial psychology or an equivalent combination of training and experience, Master’s Degree preferred

Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft software applications, Google/Gmail and internet usage, and; database management
