The access team supervisor provides leadership to develop and implement multiple programs, and supervise the access screeners, clinicians, and hospital liaisons within the Access Team. To improve the operations of KMHS in support of its stated mission. To provide the highest level of customer service to the internal and external customers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work with all KMHS departments to create an efficient, effective, and integrated evaluation system for clients, of all ages, requesting services.
  • Work cooperatively with intake clinicians, screeners and hospital liaisons to develop and implement procedures for identifying new clients with possible high risk factors and ensuring appropriate and timely follow-up.
  • Recruit and make hiring decisions for all Access team positions ensuring a commitment to customer service.
  • Conduct performance appraisals and provide coaching/discipline as applicable in conjunction with Human Resources staff. Ensure facilitation of professional growth of all Access team members.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with all organized entities that regularly refer clients to KMHS. Coordinate and/or attend planning meetings as needed.
  • Participate in program development and management tasks. Operate as a member of the management team. Work with other supervisors and unit managers to develop programs, including assessing and communicating program needs, formulating ongoing program goals and participating in quality program reviews. Help develop and implement agency policies and participate in problem solving regarding clinical and fiscal issues.
  • Collaborate with KMHS management teams to establish and monitor essential service measures, including clinical effectiveness, efficiency and customer satisfaction measures.
  • Collaborate with Information Services to develop reports and collect data to help the agency plan and coordinate needs for screening and intake coordination.
  • Ensure a high quality of treatment for clients.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with all applicable RCW's, WAC's and other regulatory and contractual requirements. Stay up to date on any new regulations affecting the departments compliance.
  • Ensure documentation and paperwork requirements are met.
  • Assist in monitoring/implementing appropriate sections of the department budget.

Specific duties and responsibilities of MHP Supervisor

  • Provide administrative and clinical supervision for clinicians, screeners and hospital liaisons assigned to Access team.
  • Oversee and direct the day to day administrative and clinical operations of the clinicians, screeners, hospital liaisons, and peer assigned to the Access team.
  • Lead, guide and monitor the development and implementation of the hospital liaison contracts and responsibilities.
Position Requirements

Knowledge and Skills

  • Maintain a thorough working knowledge of the electronic medical record system.
  • Be comfortable and proficient with de-escalation skills in order to remain calm and helpful to individuals who may be distressed, angry or experiencing a mental health crisis.
  • Strong knowledge of crisis triage, psychiatric diagnostic assessment, brief/solution focused therapy models, and liaison work.


  • Ability to ensure quality service to internal and external customers by utilizing excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in written or oral formats.
  • Ability to maintain a positive, solution oriented approach to problem solving and promoting a supportive team environment.
  • Ability to actively conduct all team members jobs when needed.

Education and Experience
MHP Supervisor: Masters degree in behavioral sciences with MHP qualification is required. Supervisory experience preferred. Child Mental Health Specialist credential and relevant licensure (LMHC, LICSW, LMFT) preferred.

Licenses and Certificates
While performing the duties of the job, the employee is required to sit, use hands and fingers and communicate effectively. Peripheral vision is also required.
