ACTT Employment Specialist

Position Summary:

The ACT Team is a multi-disciplinary team of professionals consisting of a Psychiatrist, Registered Nurse, Vocational Specialist, Housing Specialist, Peer Support Specialist, Substance Abuse Specialist, Therapists, and other Qualified Mental Health Professionals. The majority of treatment is provided in the community and in individuals’ homes.

· The Vocational Specialist is required to participate in training in the evidenced-based Individual Placement and Support Model and should provide vocational services in a way that is consistent with all IPS model principles.

· Engages the individual on the topic of school and/or work, particularly competitive employment, educating them about their opportunities and the benefits of working and school.

· Completes a pre-vocational assessment that is focused on individual’s strengths and preferences, and on-the-job assessments, where appropriate.

· Conducts job development, building relationships with local businesses and educates them about the services that the vocational specialist provides, collects information about positions, and, ideally, determines potential for job carving options.

· Facilitates individualized job placement according to individuals’ preferences, with a focus on competitive employment.

· Provides job coaching and ongoing supports, assisting the individual in learning the job skills, navigating the work place, managing work relationships with other employees and supervisor.

· Provides benefits counseling directly, as well as connects individuals to experts for more extensive benefits counseling as needed, which includes development of SSI/SSDI Work Incentives and NC Medicaid Buy-In: Health Coverage for Workers with Disabilities.

· Facilitates the Person Centered Planning process for individuals assigned, provides case management and develops treatment plans that change as client’s needs change.

· Participates in 24/7/365 on-call crisis phone rotation.

Position Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:

· A bachelor’s degree in a related human service field with minimum one year full-time, post-baccalaureate accumulated MH/SA experience working with seriously and persistently mentally ill adults or equivalent of education and required experience.

· Must have a strong commitment to the rights and ability of each person with a severe and persistent mental illness to live in a normal community residence; work in market jobs; and have access to helpful, adequate, competent, and continuous supports and services.

· Skills and competence to establish supportive trusting relationships with persons with severe and persistent mental illnesses and respect for client rights and personal preferences in treatment are essential.

· Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills

· Must have a valid, unrestricted, state appropriate driver’s license for the State of North Carolina.

· Must be able to operate a motor vehicle.

· Preferred: Experience in Job Development/Job Placement
