Food Program Assistant

Definition and Purpose

The Food Program Assistant is full time, benefited position working with a Federal and State funded Child Care Food Program (CCFP) and is under the direct supervision of the Food Program Supervisor. It is the role of the Food Program Assistant to assist the Food Program Supervisor in daily planning, preparation, service, clean up and record keeping in the center's food program.

Educational and Qualifying Experience, Skills, Licenses, Credentials

Educational/License/Credential Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Current infant/toddler/children's CPR, First Aid and fifteen hours of Health and Safety Training.

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum one (1) year experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Minimum one (1) year experience in nutritional meal planning, meal preparation.
  • Must hold a CA Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.

Knowledge/Skills Requirement

  • Must possess a basic understanding of the nutritional requirements for children under the age of 5 years.
  • Knowledge of Windows-based computer systems including Microsoft Office and Outlook.
  • Must pass tuberculosis test, physical examination, and fingerprint clearance through Department of Justice.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate knowledge to others.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and stand on feet for extended period of time

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Supervise, train and monitor work flow of the food program student assistants in coordination with the Food Program Supervisor.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Nutrition Management

  • Assist in developing a nutrition plan that meets all Federal Child Care Food Program (CCFP) and Center nutritional standards.
  • Assist in the preparation of food, along with substitutions for children with allergies or special diet needs.
  • Provide routine cleaning and maintenance of all food program-related equipment and the service area.
  • Purchase food and restock supplies as needed, working from meal plan shopping list developed by Food Program Supervisor.
  • Deliver food to classrooms and pick up used dishes and utensils.
  • Assist in maintenance of itemized records of all food program expenses.
  • Assist in reporting and record keeping.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Continue professional growth
  • Generate daily production worksheets utilizing computer program
  • Attend staff meetings, quarterly staff training workshops and other periodic training opportunities as required
  • Participate in the overall ASI assessment planning and goal setting as appropriate
  • The person holding this position is considered a "mandated reporter" under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in ASI policy as a condition of their employment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

This position is subject to a background check (including criminal records) as well as National Address Locater (Social Security Number [SSN] Trace), 7 year County Criminal Search in each county and/or state the applicant lived in based on the SSN Trace, National Criminal Database Search, Name Search, Employment Verification (All employers in past 7 years) and Education Verification (Highest Degree). Credit Reports, Motor Vehicle Record Check and Professional License Verification may also be required based upon the essential functions of the position.
