Crisis Outreach Professional - Law Enforcement

What are we looking for in a Crisis Outreach Professional?

This position works out in the field with local law enforcement to identify individuals whose mental health or substance use disorder is currently causing distress or is a contributing cause for police contact. The Crisis Outreach Professional advocates for alternatives to the individual being arrested, such as referral to the Behavioral Health Diversion Program or the Crisis Triage Center, or re-establishing a connection with a current treatment team. When needed, the Crisis Outreach Professional also completes mental health and substance use evaluations under the Involuntary Treatment Act. When the opportunity presents itself, the Crisis Outreach Professional will provide education or guidance to police officers regarding mental illness, substance use, and crisis intervention techniques.

The Crisis Outreach Professional will spend their entire shift in the community with local law enforcement, so it is essential that candidates for this role excel at forming and developing relationships with a variety of people. This position is best suited for someone who enjoys variety in their daily activities, works well in a collaborative team setting, and can creatively problem-solve to identify ways to assist those in crisis. Schedule (2 positions): Wednesday 10am-8pm, Thursday & Friday 11am-9pm, Saturday 10am-8pm OR Monday 11am-9pm, Friday 10am-8pm, Saturday & Sunday 11am-9pm

Crisis Outreach Professional duties may include:

  • collaborating with law enforcement to identify and respond to crisis situations in the community
  • advocating for individuals to avoid arrest and instead receive community treatment for their mental health or substance use concerns
  • conducting mental health or substance use evaluations for individuals who may be experiencing a crisis and referring individuals to an appropriate level of treatment
  • enriching partnerships between the community, Comprehensive, other providers, and law enforcement
  • educating law enforcement about mental illness, substance use, and crisis intervention techniques when appropriate
  • collaborating with the treatment teams to develop crisis plans for clients
  • thorough and timely completion of required legal clinical documentation

 
Position Requirements

Education/Experience: Master's degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or related field. Two years of experience preferred.

Credentials: Eligible for Washington State Agency Affiliated Counselor Registration

Other Credentials Required: Driver's License, Vehicle Liability Insurance
