About the Organization KMHS is Kitsap's nonprofit, designated community mental health provider for adults with acute and/or chronic serious mental illnesses, and children with serious emotional disturbances and their families. During 2016, KMHS provided services to more than 6,800 children and adults.

Description

PURPOSE:
Consider every idea and responsibility contained herein through the lens of Trauma Informed Care (TIC), and specifically oriented towards promoting Recovery for the people we serve in our unit, as well as anywhere in KMHS at large. These two guiding principles form an umbrella under which all services provided are contained.
Function as a member of a multidisciplinary team while demonstrating the clinical skill and experience to assess, plan, develop, coordinate, and provide treatment, rehabilitation, and support services for the people we serve. To provide integrated substance use disorder and mental health treatment for those we serve to include: assessment, collaborative treatment planning, individual, family, and group therapy and perform all duties necessary to comply with relevant Kitsap County Chemical Dependency Treatment Contracts and all other regulatory agencies.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Assist Care Team in further assessing and treating substance use of KMHS Clients. Request, gather, and coordinate information from all sources to facilitate appropriate treatment decisions.
  • Complete all required data requirements per contracts.
  • Provide intensive treatment planning sessions to develop written treatment plans with integrated interventions to address issues across the health continuum, with emphasis on substance use disorders.
  • Provide direct services for those currently using substances, utilizing recommended substance use treatment practices. Services may include individual & family therapy, group therapy, psycho-educational workshops, recovery skill building groups, and crisis intervention. Provide encouragement and positive reinforcement to engage the people we serve who maintain ambivalence related to pursuing a healthy lifestyle.
  • Utilize motivational interviewing, stages of change theory, and stage-wise treatment strategies to intervene and motivate the people we serve for change.
  • Provide consultation services and training to Team and others as requested, to assist in integration of substance use and mental health services throughout our continuum of care.
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external partners such as CRT, housing team, treatment teams, AIU, Residential, KMHS Medical Providers, Probation, KRC, other community based treatment providers, Law enforcement, and Medical Community to assist those who we serve in their recovery process.
  • Establish and maintain therapeutic relationships while maintaining professional boundaries.
  • Provide crisis intervention services as indicated by assessment and treatment process. Recognize and intervene according to continuous assessment throughout the individual’s stay.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of psychotropic medications and their side effects and contraindications with drugs of abuse and report any relevant observations to care team medical personnel.
  • Monitor assigned individuals for compliance with court-ordered requirements such as LRAs and substance related mandates. Follow all WACs and RCAs required of mandated individuals. Provide legal documents and reports.
  • Perform random UDS as clinically indicated.
  • Document all clinical services thoroughly and accurately and submit all documentation in a timely manner per agency policy and contractual/WAC requirements.
  • Demonstrate ability to work efficiently and effectively, organizing workload by prioritizing and managing multiple tasks. Maintain, or exceed, productivity standards as established by policy and evaluated by unit manager.
  • Pursue professional growth and development by seeking out learning opportunities, coordinate with unit manager to share with team, and if approved, integrate into work practices. Maintain working knowledge of current Substance Use Disorder and Mental Health treatment recommendations, trends in community mental health, including health care reform, electronic medical record, and computer technology.
  • Focus on teamwork, teambuilding, and the maintenance of a positive work atmosphere in order to best provide for the people we serve.

Position Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Current licensure as a Chemical Dependency Professional (CDP) in WA State preferred, a Bachelor’s Degree in a social services discipline; significant experience working with clients with co-occurring mental illness and substance abuse disorders; a valid WA State Driver License and reliable, insured transportation are required. A Master’s Degree is preferred.

PHYSICAL CONSIDERATIONS: While performing the duties of the job, the employee is required to stand, sit, use hands to finger or handle, talk or listen, and lift up to 10 pounds.
