Supports legacy avionics products by performing the following tasks: In a team environment, design and develop system hardware and/or software, develop associated plans, procedures and drawings, and support requirements verification and validation of avionics products. Participate in all of the phases of the product hardware and/or software development life cycle to include requirements analysis, design planning, preliminary design, detailed design, design implementation, product fabrication, integration, and design verification and validation. Support products by involvement in obsolescence management to include specification of replacement parts, development of functionally equivalent parts, or product redesign. Prepare work estimates, schedule inputs, and supply metrics to project management. Collaborate with engineering personnel to evaluate hardware, software, and operational performance requirements of products. Interface with both domestic and foreign government and commercial customers. Select, propose, and sometimes design equipment and tooling for the test and manufacture of products. Provide technical support to production test and depot repair departments as needed. Skills of Interest: - Knowledge of AS9100 processes, especially design and development controls.
- Knowledge of communications standards, such as: MIL-STD-1553A/B, USB 2.0/3.1, RS-232/422/485, ARINC 429, and Ethernet.
- Familiarity with CAD tools such as ORCAD, Mentor PADS, SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, and SPICE simulation packages.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office tools such as Word, Excel, Project, Access, and Visio.
- Familiarity with IPC soldering, assembly, and PWB development standards.
- Familiarity with programming languages such as C, C++, and C# as well as Integrated Development Environments.
- Knowledge of different compilers, linkers, and the methods necessary to generate executables, and static or dynamic libraries.
Preferred Skills: - Experience with Digital Video Recorders (DVR) or Solid State Drives (SSD).
- In-depth knowledge of analog and digital video standards such as NTSC, PAL, SECAM, Component, Composite and S-Video, RS-170A, RS-343A, and video compression standards.
- Knowledge of DO-178B/C and DO-254 design assurance processes.
- PWB layout expertise using Allegro, PADS, or similar tools, with knowledge of impedance control, EMI reduction techniques, board stackup, and material requirements.
- Device driver development for Windows XP or Windows 7.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Prefer a 4 technical year degree plus a minimum of 8 years direct industry experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must have excellent manual dexterity and hand/eye coordination, able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, able to sit and/or stand for long periods of time, and will at times be required to work with some chemical and bonding agents.
