Intern: Drug Delivery – Dosage Form Design and Development

Drug Delivery Intern (mRNA nanoformulations)

Location: Gaithersburg, MD

MedImmune is the worldwide biologics research and development arm of AstraZeneca, a global, innovation-driven biopharmaceutical business that focuses on the discovery, development and commercialization of small molecule and biologic prescription medicines. We are currently seeking candidates who are working towards obtaining a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Biomedical Engineering or a related major for an internship during the summer of 2018. This internship opportunity is with the Dosage Form Design Development department.

The objective of this internship is to develop nucleic acid formulations to support development of internal program at MedImmune.

The MedImmune Drug Delivery group is seeking a motivated intern to work on novel formulations for mRNA delivery. Work will include, but is not limited to, the development of formulations and biophysical characterization of nanoformulations and other drug delivery related projects. The intern candidate will have the opportunity to learn and work with diverse analytical tools as well as processes related to the scale of nanoformulations. The candidate will have the opportunity to work with Drug Delivery team members and cross-functional contributors on a regular basis.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Nanoparticle formulations: generation, purification, characterization, and optimization
  • Biophysical characterization using methods such as HPLC, fluorescence spectroscopy, UV-vis, DSC, ITC, DLS, and other nanoparticle characterization methods.
  • Data analysis and presentation of data in meetings
  • In vitro testing

 
Position Requirements

Position Requirements:

  • Preference for familiarity with nucleic acid nanoparticle formulation
  • Undergraduate Seniors and Graduate students
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0+
