JOB SUMMARY

The Test Engineer 4 is an integral contributor to a fast-paced new product introduction team. The Test Engineering team’s mission is to create the most efficient, reliable, and robust test solutions for Astronics products that power tomorrow’s aircraft. By applying our deep understanding of test methodologies towards the creation of systems, we are able to transform test data into business intelligence.

The primary responsibility of this role is to design and develop automated manufacturing test solutions, to include test fixtures and test stations with rack-mounted test equipment. This position will successfully deploy to production in a controlled, on-time, and on-schedule fashion.

KEY PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES:

Power Expert. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to develop automated manufacturing test fixtures for power products that deliver up to 30kW of power. This involves creating robust and reliable test fixtures that operate in a challenging environment comprising of prototype hardware, software, and unit under test with high power flowing. An ability to work with a variety of tools (AutoCAD, Solidworks, OrCAD, etc) and abundant knowledge in power safety are keys to success. In the 3-6 month timeframe, the Test Engineer 4 will deliver highly complex test automation projects designed from scratch using the above skillsets.

Critical Insight. When there is a failure in a test process, the root cause is rarely immediately obvious. This role is tasked with solving the most obscure and challenging problems. To do so, the successful candidate will need to quickly diagnose and partition failures, pulling together cross-functional and cross-organizational expertise when necessary.

Data Driven. Our systems generate a lot of data. The successful candidate will have a knack for seeing patterns in data and drawing useful insights to help with troubleshooting and future development. Experience with telemetry-based testing is a big plus, as is familiarity with data visualization and statistical modeling.

Continuous Improvement. The Test Engineer 4 is never satisfied with the status quo and is always searching for improvement opportunities. Step by step, they will driving change and improvements utilizing lean manufacturing and expert-level lean project management practices like scrum. In the 1-2 year timeframe, this role will have a major impact on a variety of continuous improvement initiatives, helping the test engineering team and the whole organization become more efficient and capable with our processes, culture, and of course technology.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Design and develop test fixtures used in manufacturing test of power supplies, power conversion, and power distribution products.
  • Define and implement manufacturing test hardware architecture for reliability, robustness, diagnostic capability, and data capture.
  • Design and develop electrical and mechanical assemblies for reliability, modularity, manufacturability, and maintainability.
  • Perform root cause and corrective action efforts to resolve issues with manufacturing test equipment in production and at contract manufacturers.
  • Develop and refine test requirements and procedures for power products.
  • Design and develop environmental test fixtures used in thermal and vibe chambers.
  • Plan, coordinate, and perform test engineering activities throughout entire lifecycle of test equipment development from analysis through deployment.
  • Align hardware development and processes with lean manufacturing and continuous improvement principles and objectives.
  • Software development skill in C# a plus.
  • Experience with regulated industry a plus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience/Education: BS/BA degree in Engineering/Computer Science and 7 years related experience required.

  • Eligibility Requirement: Must be a US Person (under ITAR rules) to be eligible.
