About the Organization The Children's Tumor Foundation (CTF) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to finding effective treatments for the millions of people worldwide living with neurofibromatosis (NF), a term for three distinct disorders: NF1, NF2, and schwannomatosis. NF causes tumors to grow on nerves throughout the body and can lead to blindness, bone abnormalities, cancer, deafness, disfigurement, learning disabilities, and excruciating and disabling pain, and affects one in every 3,000 people.

CTF serves the NF community through cutting-edge research, expanding knowledge, and advancing care for the NF community. CTF is the largest private donor of NF research, and conducts its own as well as fosters advancements through active partnerships with patients, scientists, research institutions and industry. Position Human Resources Internship  
Full-Time/Part-Time Casual  
Location New York (CTF Headquarters)  

Children’s Tumor Foundation is seeking an intern to work directly with the Senior Director of Human Resources on a wide range of projects including those related to onboarding/orientation, HR compliance, compensation and performance management.

This internship is designed to be both educational and practical. In this position, the intern will learn how to take skills she or he may have acquired in school and apply them in a professional setting. She or he will gain a better understanding of the role that HR can play in a nonprofit setting, and will be better prepared to work in the Human Resources arena. The candidate will also have opportunities to network and work collaboratively with operations, marketing, development and finance staff. This intern will be an integral partner to the HR department, and will directly contribute ideas and innovation into the department’s processes and activities.


  • Assist with data management and migration to a new HR recordkeeping platform
  • Monitor timekeeping system
  • The interrelationship of HR and Finance in the areas of employee paperwork, payroll, timekeeping, reports and their related systems.
  • Plan and execute staff appreciation and recognition activities.
  • Assist with the planning and execution of training workshops and monthly Town Hall meetings.
  • Create and/or update HR documents including onboarding materials, website, job descriptions, surveys, powerpoints
  • Audit HR department expenses
  • Assist with training programs (training topics, and organization training initiatives)
  • Manage and monitor employee PTO days
  • Assist with creation of careers section of website
  • Create and conduct surveys, and analyze survey data.
  • Coordinate Summer Internship Program (scheduling and conducting interviews, onboarding)
Position Requirements


  • Current undergraduate or graduate student with an interest and aptitude to work in Human Resources, especially in the nonprofit industry.
  • Problem solving capabilities necessary to accomplish the duties and tasks of the position.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills, coupled with detail orientation.
  • Innovative thinker with a proactive, helpful attitude
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including excel and Powerpoint.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and handle numerous assignments simultaneously.

Ideally we are looking for candidates who are available to intern part-time, 2-3 days per week, between 5-7 hours per day, starting mid-April. We can be flexible on the start date and scheduling for the right candidate.
