About the Organization KMHS is Kitsap's nonprofit, designated community mental health provider for adults with acute and/or chronic serious mental illnesses, and children with serious emotional disturbances and their families. During 2016, KMHS provided services to more than 6,800 children and adults.

Location Kitsap Mental Health Services (Main Campus)  

Purpose:  To perform comprehensive psychiatric medical assessment and participate in the planning and development of a treatment approach which includes all aspects of the bio/psychosocial model,  reviewing admits with the Charge Nurse and provide Admitting Orders for patients during midweek, and performing psychiatric evaluations and treatment on weekends. Psychiatric and medical decision-making for care of inpatients.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
• Provide both medical and psychiatric admission evaluations for patients admitted to the Adult Inpatient Unit (AIU) and Youth Inpatient Unit (YIU), taking into consideration requirements for those detained under the Involuntary Treatment Act.
• Provide ongoing psychiatric and medical treatment including obtaining necessary consultation for the AIU and YIU.  This includes evaluation and monitoring of both psychiatric and medical medications, other somatic treatments as well as psychosocial aspects of treatment.
• Make decisions about use of seclusion and restraint and compulsory medications.
• Participate as a team member of the inpatient services unit, keeping in mind the above stated purpose.
• Coordinate clinical decisions with outpatient psychiatrists and outpatient treatment teams.
• Provide charting/reports and client documentation as necessary in a complete, accurate, and timely manner.
• Participate in on-call coverage for the 24-hour programs.  This coverage typically runs from 5:00 in the evening to 8:00 in the morning on weekdays and on weekends, and occurs on rotation with the other providers.
•  In addition to the above, any other responsibilities appropriate to the position and not specifically listed in the job description.

Physical Considerations:  While performing the duties of the job, the employee is required to sit and talk or listen.

Position Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:  Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathy.  Licensed to practice medicine in Washington.  Specialization in psychiatry.  Board certified or eligible preferred. ARNP: ARNP license with prescriptive authority in the State of Washington with a specialty in area of psychiatry appropriate to care team assignment (child and adolescent or adult).
