Purpose: Perform Analysis and Design on Process Systems for Airport projects in accordance with good engineering practice and Swanson Rink standard of care. Airport systems include Baggage Handling Systems (BHS), Passenger Boarding Bridges (PBB) and all associated sub systems, Hydrant Fueling Systems and passenger Security Screening Check Point (SSCP) systems. Works closely with Project Managers, Project Engineers, and Senior Engineers.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  1. Demonstrates knowledge of power design including UPS and generator support systems, preparation of electrical one-line diagrams, short circuit and voltage drop calculations and fuse and circuit breaker coordination studies.
  2. Familiar with industrial controls including systems architecture diagrams, HMI's, software and PLC deployment and related sensing and control devices related to Airport systems.
  3. Familiar with other related building technology systems including fire alarm, security, telecommunications and audio/visual equipment.
  4. Design functions include preparation of airport systems studies, systems simulations, Life Cycle Cost Analysis (LCCA), flow diagrams, general systems layout, 3-D modeling, cost estimates and control system design.
  5. Performs necessary design calculations to determine systems performance requirements and criteria compliance.
  6. Prepares reports related to all design functions and develops specifications to establish systems parameters to meet project criteria.
  7. Makes presentations to clients, and/or in front of groups.
  8. During project construction, reviews contractor and vendor submittals, responds to contractor and owner Requests for Information (RFI's), and performs periodic onsite inspections to confirm conformance with the construction documents.
  9. Performs onsite testing and commissioning of completed systems.
  10. Develops and maintain good client relations.
  11. Proposes innovative solutions and strategizes with team to resolve concerns and conflicts.
  12. Shares knowledge acquired at seminars and training events with team to ensure team stays current on industry standards.
Travel Requirements Some travel required.  
Position Requirements

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, or a related field, from an ABET-accredited four-year college or university.
  • 3 - 5 years’ experience preferably in design of airport systems.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer preferred.

Knowledge, Skill, Ability

  • Excellent communications skills
  • Familiar with airport practices and procedures
  • Familiarity with engineering economics, statistical methods
  • Familiarity with detailed cost estimating techniques and tools
  • Report writing and interpretation
  • Familiarity with controls systems design
  • Familiarity with project design costing, scheduling, budgeting and time management
  • Must be able to pass Transportation Security Administration (TSA) security screening requirements
  • Some travel is required
