Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health Arizona is seeking an energetic, talented, and dedicated individual to be our Mentor with our HYPE program in Phoenix! HYPE stands for Helping Youth Participate and Excel, this program is a transition aged youth program that works on building independent living skills in conjunction with working with the Phoenix Zoo on vocation skills! This program is designed to work with adolescents preparing to turn 18 years old. The youth learn how to run a group, how to set group norms, peer mentorship, leadership skills, and how to give back to their communities.
What are we looking for in our HYPE Mentor?
An individual with experience working with at risk youth/teens (15-17 years old) who can build trust and find connections. Most importantly creativity, energetic, and someone who enjoys working outside with animals! This role requires you to have strong documentation skills, but also adapt to different project the Phoenix zoo identifies for the program.
Position is Tuesday – Saturday, Saturdays are spent OUTDOORS completing physical activities!
- Work 1:1 with teens to develop independent living skills such as apply for jobs, writing papers, and developing social skills
- Build relationships with clients and their families to increase progress within the program
- Work with clients to prepare them for court dates, how to advocate for themselves
- Working outside to complete projects with the Phoenix zoo (i.e. working on exhibits, building enclosures)
- Attends all HYPE related events with enrolled clients, attend CFT meetings, medication checks upon request, and complete all required documentation
