Controlled Environment Agriculture Engineer 

About the Organization Established in 1965 Swanson Rink specializes in mechanical and electrical engineering for mission critical data centers, airports and corporate clients. Our staff includes specialists in airport systems engineering (baggage handling, passenger boarding bridges, fueling and deicing), as well as fire protection, telecommunications, security and project management.
 
Description

Swanson Rink has a position open for an engineer or agricultural specialist who can support our emerging business in consulting, modeling and designing HVAC and electrical systems for indoor agriculture facilities, including vertical farms, container farms, and greenhouses.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  1. Consults with Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA) companies on the production of plants to produce high value crops at maximum productivity in an efficient and environmentally friendly way
  2. Provides CFD modeling support for CEA projects
  3. Makes presentations to clients, and/or in front of groups
  4. Proposes innovative solutions and strategizes with team to resolve concerns and conflicts
  5. Stays current with industry trends by participating in seminars and training events and shares knowledge with team
 
Position Requirements

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biological/Agricultural Engineering or Horticulture from an ABET accredited four-year college or university.

  • Certification as an EIT
  • Experience with CFD modeling tools preferred
  • Able to apply theoretical knowledge to achieve cost-effective, constructible design solutions
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively; to express ideas; to share information; and to prepare clear, well-organized correspondence, reports and similar documents
  • Ability to make presentations to clients, and/or in front of groups
  • Demonstrates effective conflict resolution and exhibits creative problem solving strategies
  • Exhibits strategic thinking skills
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States
