Share Email Opening Title Communicative Disorders Assistant  Category Healthcare Professional Opportunities   Req Number HEA-18-00019   Open Date 3/21/2018   Number of Openings 1   Department Early Learning and Development  Work type Temporary Part-time  Grade None Specified  FTE 0.9  Posting Close Date 04/02/2018  Description Key Responsibilities Provides client and family-centred care based on direction provided by the Speech-Language Pathologist and in accordance with established policies and procedures Respects the client/family’s rights to make decisions based on their own values, beliefs and experiences Carries out the Speech-Language Pathology designated programs to individual clients or groups of clients who are being seen for therapy and documents client progress Provides education to clients, caregivers and other professionals under direct supervision by the Speech-Language Pathologist Participates in on-the-job training and continuing education/professional development where appropriate Documents accurate workload statistics Collects relevant data as directed by the Speech-Language Pathologist Maintains clean, safe equipment and materials and assists in reviewing inventory Attends and participates in staff meetings Participates in quality management activities Communicates in a timely and effective manner with team members and clients Provides client/caregiver training, follow-up and equipment preparation under the supervision of the primary clinician Identifies practice issues and participates in their resolution with the clinical staff Adheres to Charting Guideline, Speech-Language Pathology Documentation Guidelines and the Ontario College of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology Standards of Practice Participates in research activities as applicable Utilizes research information to support evidence based practice Participates in quality improvement initiatives, supports the maintenance of a safe and healthy work environment and advances a culture of client/patient safety through work and daily practices Other duties as assigned Qualifications Graduate of a Communicative Disorders Assistant program Previous job related experience required (or practicum experience for new graduates) Experience working with children with physical and developmental disabilities preferred Experience with early AAC is preferred Experience working in a an interdisciplinary setting is preferred Strong organizational, problem-solving, verbal, written and interpersonal skills Self directed learner who demonstrates initiative Ability to effectively and efficiently manage fluctuating clinical responsibilities Knowledge of speech, language and communication strategies for intervention and training Ability to modify delivery of program activities based on client’s interest and abilities Must be flexible to work in two nursery school sites   About the Organization Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital creates a world of possibility by supporting children and youth with disabilities, medical complexity, illness and injury.
