Part Time Instructor - Medical Information Systems (On Location)

Description

Part-time faculty position with teaching responsibility for a full range of Medical Information courses. Instructor will also participate in planning, implementation, and evaluation of all courses taught within the area, and contribute to ongoing improvement of the Medical Information and Medical Assistant program curriculums.

Part Time Faculty normally teach one or two courses per semester. Teaching assignments may be available for day and evening courses.

 
Position Requirements

Position Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in a healthcare field preferred.
  2. Must have instruction in educational theory and techniques.
  3. At least three years of employment in a healthcare facility, including a minimum of 160 hours in an ambulatory healthcare setting performing or observing administrative and clinical procedures as performed by medical assistants.
  4. Must be credentialed in good standing in Medical Assisting, by an organization whose credentialing exam is accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) or the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).
  5. At least one year experience teaching at the post secondary and/or vocational/technical education preferred.
  6. Working knowledge of healthcare and insurance industries including regulatory issues, and ability to research and interpret Medicare regulations.
  7. Familiarity with the most current version of Windows, MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook, Internet Explorer, and microcomputer applications used for Medical Coding, Billing, and Electronic Health Records.
  8. Must maintain knowledge of current medical assisting practice in administrative and clinical areas as defined by the MAERB Core Curriculum.
  9. Strong analytical skills.
  10. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  11. Excellent grammar skills.

Position Responsibilities:

Instructional Responsibilities:

  1. Teach lecture and laboratory portions of courses in Medical Information Systems.
  2. Prepare and distribute course syllabi to students.
  3. Evaluate student progress through appropriate tools.
  4. Maintain appropriate instructional laboratories and equipment.
  5. Participate in accreditation activities.
  6. Participate in committee assignments, program advisory committee activities, and departmental activities including recruitment of students.
  7. Maintain a high level of academic competency through professional development activities.
  8. Stay current with MAERB, CAAHEP, and AAMA program requirements.
  9. Maintain medical assistant credential.
  10. Review new CAAHEP Standards and Guidelines and implement.
  11. Ensure that all MAERB/CAAHEP required information is displayed in course syllabi.
  12. Maintain records of student competency completion and requirements for accreditation.
  13. Review students’ records for completion of requirements in courses.

Expected Hours of Work:

Exempt employee. The work schedule is variable depending on course schedule.

Travel:

Most of the work will be done at the Alpena campus. However, some local travel may be expected.

Work Environment:

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms; and, use cognitive and analytical skills.
