This clinician is responsible for providing outpatient behavioral health services, including counseling, case management, and day treatment services. Services may be provided on an individual or group setting, primarily in a day program or other community-based environment.

The clinician/social worker reports to the clinical manager and is responsible for ensuring that the emotional and social needs of the clients are met and maintained on an individualized basis in accordance with policies and procedures, and current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations.

Essential Functions

  • Develops a comprehensive social history and psychosocial assessment that includes the client’s problems, strengths, and preferences; including cultural, religious, and ethnic background and implications for the care plan.

  • Helps clients and families identify needs and develop a service plan to meet those needs.

  • Provide therapy, day treatment, and case management services to clients based on targeted individualized treatment needs.

  • Develop curriculum for day treatment therapeutic programs for children and adults with co-occurring behavioral health and developmental disabilities or autism

  • Provide clinical training and support to direct care staff providing services for a broad range of behavioral health issues impacting children, adolescents, young adults and individuals with developmental disabilities

  • Involves clients and families in treatment planning, encouraging their attendance at care conferences or with outside providers/professionals.

  • Attends scheduled care conferences and identifies and interprets psychosocial needs of clients for inclusion in the care plan.

  • Completes mandatory documentation within timelines established by applicable regulations and policies.

  • Mediates issues that arise among clients, families, and staff.

  • Provides linkage with appropriate community resources by maintaining knowledge of other systems, making referrals, and identifying unmet needs (e.g., recreational transportation, adaptive phone equipment, etc.).

  • Provides clients and families with crisis management services as needed.

  • Develops a comprehensive discharge plan in collaboration with clients, clients’ families, multidisciplinary staff, and referral agencies.

  • Trains and consults with staff regarding psychosocial needs that encompass mental health, development, and diversity of individual clients to increase staff knowledge and skills.

  • Educates staff about any relevant state legislation or regulations relating to behavioral health services.

  • Advocates on a case, policy, and program level.

  • Meet required productivity requirements of 22 billable hours per week.

  • Provide clinical review and audit of clients’ charts and documentation to ensure compliance and support quality improvement.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities; however, this position is required to have weekly or biweekly supervision with the Clinical Manager.

Work Environment

This job regularly works in the community providing services outside of the office, in schools, client homes, and other community settings. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and listen. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; drive; typing; speaking on the phone; sitting.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. This position operates Monday through Friday during regular business hours; however there will often be times in which the requirement will include extending hours into 2-3 evenings a week. Occasionally, additional evening or weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Travel

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected.

 
Position Requirements

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in social work or related field.

  • Licensed through the State of Ohio as a LSW/LPC/LISW/LPCC.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • One to two (1-2) years of social work experience in a community setting, working directly with clients.

  • Experience working with people with autism spectrum disorders and developmental disabilities.

  • Experience working with people with mental health conditions.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

  • Must be able to function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, staff, and support agencies.

  • Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, emotionally upset, and at times hostile clients/family members.

  • Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
