Astronics-PECO, located in Clackamas, Oregon, designs and manufactures highly engineered commercial aerospace interior components and systems for the aerospace industry. We specialize in Passenger Service Units (PSUs) which incorporate air handling, emergency oxygen, electrical power management and cabin lighting systems. We also manufacture a wide range of fuel tank access doors that meet stringent strength, fuel sealing and anti-corrosion requirements.

SUMMARY:

The purpose of this position is to oversee the Quality Assurance department and ensure that the Company maintains their reputation as a supplier of the highest quality and reliability.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Includes the following duties and others as assigned.

  • Effectively manage a diverse team of Quality Engineers and promote a work environment based on teamwork, trust, confidence and accountability.
  • Drive continuous quality improvement activities using established processes such as corrective and preventive action and root cause analysis.
  • Maintain company's AS9100 quality procedures, standards and specifications.
  • Maintain NADCAP Special Process accreditations.
  • Direct activities to support Corrective and Preventative Action (CAPA) and Internal Audit processes.
  • Review and implement customer requirements and ensure they are incorporated into the QMS and met.
  • Communicate with customers to resolve product quality issues and support customer on-site visits and audits.
  • Identify ways to reduce waste and increase efficiency utilizing Lean Manufacturing tools.
  • Develop and maintain quality performance metrics by gathering relevant data and measuring against established company objectives and/or goals.
  • Establish and implement necessary communication strategies for the improvement and awareness of quality issues across all departments.
  • Plan and manage departmental activities in accordance with agreed budgets and time lines.
  • Report as necessary on changes in standard (internally and externally) and on performance against standard.

This position may require knowledge of SOX / 404 internal audit controls and related documentation and this position may be responsible for the performance of various functions that may be an integral part of the Company’s overall SOX / 404 internal control structure.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manages and directs quality personnel. Responsible for their overall direction, coordination, and evaluation. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include safety, interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Position Requirements

Desired Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Experiences:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Technical discipline with 5 or more years of quality aerospace experience.
  • Leadership—a demonstrated ability to lead people and achieve results through others.
  • Possess knowledge of ISO 9000 and aerospace requirements (AS9100, AS9102, etc.).
  • Familiarity with Core Tools – FMEA, MSA, SPC
  • ASQ Certification preferred – CQE/CMQ.
  • Possess strong business writing skills.
  • Possess strong computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, make presentations and write concise reports for all levels of employees.
