Overview:

MedImmune is the worldwide biologics research and development arm of AstraZeneca, a global, innovation-driven biopharmaceutical business that focuses on the discovery, development and commercialization of small molecule and biologic prescription medicines. MedImmune is pioneering innovative research and exploring novel pathways across key therapeutic areas, including respiratory, inflammation and autoimmunity; cardiovascular and metabolic disease; oncology; neuroscience; and infection and vaccines.

We are currently seeking candidates who are working towards obtaining an undergraduate or master’s degree in Logistics, Engineering or related field for an internship during the summer of 2018. This summer internship opportunity is a shared role between the Supply Chain & Operations Excellence departments.

Opportunity:

The Frederick Manufacturing Center has embarked on an effort to expand its product knowledge management repository. This effort seeks to identify and consolidate historical biologics product knowledge. Product knowledge management fulfils a key regulatory expectation as defined by ICH Q10. AstraZeneca launched PKMS, a non-GxP SharePoint-based platform to fulfil this regulatory requirement. PKMS is a central repository for the capture of events and global technical product knowledge including product descriptions, technical transfers, product milestones, product performance, deviations, issues and changes.

The successful candidate will gain an exceptional exposure to the full product lifecycle of breakthrough biologics therapies.

Core Responsibilities

  • Train on PKMS system and related knowledge stores
  • Conduct product knowledge needs analysis
  • Review existing product knowledge sources
  • Create implementation plan
  • Present research, implementation approach and status to sponsor
  • Interview product experts and management regarding product events
  • Survey, inventory and plan for transfer of knowledge assets into PKMS.
  • Present summary of experience, lessons learned and recommendations to sponsor and staff
  • Assess Manufacturing and other site operations using business process mapping and analytical tools and techniques
  • Plan and facilitate working session with full-time employees to apply process mapping, analysis and problem-solving
  • Develop and standardize continuous improvement tool training content, and support the design and development of a sharepoint-based continuous improvement portal

 
Position Requirements

Position Requirements:

The ideal candidate for this opportunity will have strong interpersonal skills, a passionate interest in solving business problems, an interest in business analysis and keen attention to detail.

The student will also have to possess research skills and a thirst for learning, to rapidly acquire the knowledge needed for the project.

The successful candidate will need confidence and independence. While the student will work with an internal sponsor and SMEs, they will have to develop a plan for their work and then direct their own day-to-day activities to achieve the plan.

Strong communication skills and an ability to work with a variety of stakeholders are essential.

They should possess an interest in understanding biopharmaceutical business principles.

Experience with SharePoint and other MS Office skills (or similar) is important.

· The student with interest in information systems or knowledge management is a plus.

Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0+
