Summary: This position manages all social media outreach for ASDM and generates creative content for the ASDM blog, web pages, e-newsletters, advertisements, public service announcements, visitor/market surveys, collateral materials, and calendar listings. In addition, this position coordinates commercial on-grounds filming and photography and manages the ASDM Animal Adoption program.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities includes the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Social Media:

  • Creates, coordinates, activates, and monitors all social calendars and syndication schedules across ASDM social platforms. Must successfully align with brand voice for Facebook, Instagram, Instagram Stories, Twitter, and YouTube.
  • Develops and implements social media strategy and organization to meet daily and monthly traffic goals and increase engagement across social channels.
  • Writes compelling, short form copy and publishes daily content that builds meaningful and actionable engagement with the ASDM community.
  • Tracks and reports metrics and trends with strategic analysis and recommendations.
  • Monitors trends, strategies, and best practices in market and apply knowledge to ASDM’s social media initiatives.
  • Collaborates with Museum staff to collect the most current and compelling content for social platforms.

Filming & Photography:

  • Serves as the first point of contact for all inquiries about internal and external facility use by local, national, and international filmmakers, photographers, and videographers.
  • Assists with media and promotional appearances, including on-camera interviews and coordinating keeper availability for handling animals.
  • Maintains and updates filming/photography guideline documents and web page for external inquiries.
  • Interfaces between external crews and ASDM curatorial staff to determine filming needs, timelines, etc.
  • Generates filming contracts, processes payments, and ensures that Certificates of Insurance are on file.

Marketing:

  • Assists in the development and execution of comprehensive marketing plans and programs in support of ASDM strategic focus on improving the visitor experience and growing mission-aligned income.
  • Works cross-departmentally to develop original creative and mission-driven content that tells a compelling story designed to educate and enhance the visitor experience.
  • Ensures content is fact-checked and appropriately sourced.
  • Assists other departments in editing content for correct spelling and grammar.
  • Researches and compiles existing visitor and market surveys to form baseline summary of data.
  • Develops, writes, and implements visitor and market surveys and summarize data collected.
  • Represents ASDM at appropriate networking events and trade shows.
  • Manages the press clip library, media lists, and press kit.
  • Manages the Marketing Internship program.
  • Assists the Marketing & Group Sales Manager with other ASDM special projects as assigned.

Position Requirements

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, public relations, related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum three years of related experience.
  • An emphasis will be placed on those who have worked in visitor-based, non-profit, conservation settings, and/or in promotion of tourism, along with a strong background in social media.

Other Skills and Abilities:

  • Use of desktop or electronic publishing software.
  • Must be goal oriented and possess high degree of self-motivation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including influencing skills.
  • Must possess strong planning and organization skills.
  • Video experience preferred.
  • Flexible work style adapting to changing demands and priorities.
  • Must be able to work independently as well as in a team setting.
  • Ability to work well with internal and external clients.
  • Understanding/familiarity with non-profit, visitor-based organization.
  • Ability to work nights and weekends as required.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have solid working knowledge with Microsoft Office Suite, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube. Use of Photoshop, Adobe Premiere Elements, Constant Contact, and Survey Monkey a plus.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
