Annual Giving Coordinator  

Description

SUMMARY

Under the general direction of the Annual Giving Manager, this position is responsible for coordinating all aspects of the annual giving and mid-level donor programs to increase participation and long-term financial growth from individual donors. He/she will successfully organize and develop direct mail solicitations, online giving, mid-level donor solicitations, giving circles/societies (Wild at Heart), and implement strategic stewardship activities that support the Annual Fund.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • In consultation with the Annual Giving Manager, develops, plans, executes and evaluates a comprehensive annual giving program designed to broaden the zoo's donor base and increase overall participation and financial support to the Annual Fund.
  • Coordinates all annual fundraising programs including executing a targeted, multi-approach direct mail program and proactive electronic fundraising program that aligns with the zoo's overall digital media strategies.
  • Develops and coordinates the zoo's Wild at Heart giving society, including execution of targeted stewardship activities (such as electronic communications, postcards and/or brochures, videos, website copy and donor profiles) and coordinates with Donor Stewardship Coordinator on benefit redemption issues; provides communications support for Wild at Heart stewardship events managed by the Fundraising Events staff, including web content for marketing and stewardship purposes as needed; serves as frontline contact for general questions and inquiries regarding the Wild at Heart program.
  • Actively manage the individual donor pipeline through the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship process; makes recommendations for assignment of donors to appropriate relationship managers.
  • In collaboration with the Development and Membership teams, drive the implementation of online giving campaigns, including peer-to-peer, crowdfunding, online giving days and acquisition appeals. Maintain our external donor communications plan.
  • Develop and implement effective mass cultivation and solicitation strategies to improve retention, identify and invite donors to upgrade their support and reengage lapsed donors. Collaboration with Data Services team for annual fund reporting and lists and segmentation and with Membership team on pipeline development.
  • Collaborates with Marketing, Communications, Digital Sales and Fundraising Events staff to coordinate a cohesive annual marketing effort to increase annual gifts through advertising, publications, social media and events related to the Annual Fund in conjunction with the zoo's overall digital plans.
  • In collaboration with the Annual Giving Manager, create and oversee WPZ's stewardship program for individual donors.
  • Analyzes data regarding annual giving programs and past giving trends to provide analyses of program results and to plan for future segmentation; coordinates with Annual Giving Manager and Director of Development on analyses and segmentation recommendations.
  • Develop and expand the zoo's external workplace giving campaign including a renewal process and tiered stewardship program for top donors and companies. Collaborate with the Associate Director, Philanthropic Initiatives to engage companies through workplace giving and corporate matching gift programs.
  • With the Annual Giving Manager and Director of Development, establishes fundraising goals, objectives, strategies, schedules, and analysis of results for each element of the Annual Fund.
  • Interfaces with Annual Giving vendors on day-to-day basis; evaluates vendor partnerships on an annual basis under the guidance of the Annual Giving Manager.
  • Lead donors and prospects on guided tours of the zoo for cultivation and stewardship purposes.
  • Safeguard the confidentiality of donor information at all times. Maintain and adhere to policies around information gathering and sharing in accordance with professional ethics standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrated record of accomplishment in annual fund development and implementation, knowledge of fundraising principles and techniques, and direct mail appeals and newsletters.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with a specific ability to create donor solicitations, acknowledgements, and stewardship pieces such as engaging reports and donor profiles; must be capable of writing coherent and compelling messages and content for printed, electronic and verbal script materials.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, including the ability to form personal relationships and to communicate effectively, delivering exceptional customer service to a variety of stakeholders (i.e. donors, sponsors and volunteers), both verbally and in writing.
  • Proven ability to integrate social media and electronic communications into fundraising communications and campaigns.
  • Ability to work well in an extremely fast-paced, ever-changing environment, and manage multiple projects, with competing demands while maintaining a commitment to excellence.
  • Must be well organized, detail oriented, and have strong critical thinking skills, with a proven ability to work independently.
  • Ability to travel as needed to perform job duties.
  • Understanding and respectful of diversity in a team-oriented culture.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule for events scheduled on evenings and weekends.
  • Must be a self-starter with imagination and creativity; knowledge of wildlife conservation issues a plus.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) or equivalent from an accredited four-year college or university; and two to three years of annual giving experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Prior professional writing experience a plus.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Valid US driver's license preferred

COMPUTER SKILLS

Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office (especially Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access) and data analytics. Ability to work with customized and/or other database management tools, perform mail merges, and conduct Internet research. Previous experience with Raiser's Edge preferred; or the ability to gain proficiency in the use of fund raising software.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Ability to write persuasively and form a cogent argument as to why funders should support WPZ.

MATHEMATICAL ABILity

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
