Description

Job Purpose: The Payroll Professional is responsible for processing all aspects of weekly and semi-monthly payroll in multiple states for union and non-union employees. This person also completes reports and maintains records.

Duties:

  • Process and guarantee weekly disbursements of multi-state payroll, including garnishments, benefits and taxes to 100-200 employees consistent with federal and state wage and hour laws
  • Determines payroll liabilities by entering tax information, 401k transfer and direct deposits, wage assignments and garnishments. Remits tax payment by collecting and verifying data; prepares reports and statements; initiating payment.
  • Prepare relevant management reports, including: weekly, monthly, quarterly and year-end reports (gross payroll, hours worked, tax deductions, benefit deductions, etc.)
  • Reconcile and prepare all related tax forms and reports.
  • Ensure payroll is processed in an accurate, compliant and timely manner
  • Coordinate the payroll activities of accounting staff
  • Prepare payroll account reconciliations
  • Review Canadian payroll, including benefits and taxes
  • Ensure all payroll information and records are maintained in accordance with statutory requirements
  • Support all internal and external audits related to payroll
  • Resolve issues relating to payroll production
  • Communicate actively with Project Management, HR and Accounts Payable to review cross-departmental impacts and reconcile data sharing
  • Ensure systems are set-up and updated to reflect our current employee base, including wages, benefits, sick and vacation time in line with contracts (union and non-union)
  • Maintains employee confidence and protects payroll operations by keeping information confidential.
 
Position Requirements

Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Business/Accounting preferred
  • Certified Payroll Professional preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience working with multi-state payrolls
  • Prior experience using computer based accounting systems and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
  • Proficient with Working experience of payroll tax at the federal, state and local levels
  • Demonstrated strong organizational skills
  • Prior experience interpreting union and prevailing wage contracts, provisions or agreements
