Stem Cell Intern

Location: Gaithersburg, MD

MedImmune is the worldwide biologics research and development arm of AstraZeneca, a global, innovation-driven biopharmaceutical business that focuses on the discovery, development and commercialization of small molecule and biologic prescription medicines. MedImmune is pioneering innovative research and exploring novel pathways across key therapeutic areas, including respiratory, inflammation and autoimmunity; cardiovascular and metabolic disease; oncology; neuroscience; and infection and vaccines.

We are currently seeking candidates who are working towards obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology or a related major for an internship during the summer of 2018. This internship opportunity is with the Respiratory, Inflammation, & Autoimmunity department.

The summer intern project will be focused on the role of epithelial progenitors in lung regeneration and their interaction with the cell niche components in chronic respiratory diseases such as asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).

Objective

The intern will work collaboratively with a mentor to characterize epithelial regeneration ex vivo and in vivo using primary/stem cell culture and lung injury mouse model.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSCs) differentiation
  • Isolation and culture of primary cell populations
  • Isolation of genomic DNA and total RNA and gene expression analysis (quantitative RT-PCR)
  • Protein expression analysis (Elisa, FACS)
  • Histological analysis

 
Position Requirements

Position Requirements:

  • Experience with cell culture and sterile techniques
  • Current undergraduate Juniors, Seniors
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0+
