Description

Reports To: EVP, Chief Administration Officer
Direct Reports: 0
FLSA Status: Exempt

The Commercial Banking Officer position is responsible for making a valuable contribution to the bank's commercial lending sales and Business development.

Key responsibilities include new business development, customer contacts, quoting/developing lending proposals, customer relationship management, contributing to marketing/lead generation and assisting with deposit growth.

Key Responsibilities

Sales Goal Performance

  • Achieve goals and objectives set for customer retention, commercial loan close rates and new business volume
  • Achieve goals and objectives set for commercial loan growth
  • Contribute to bank's marketing activities to generate leads for our sales process
  • Create and develop commercial relationships through networking, cold calling and other sales methods
  • Service and expand existing relationships through calling efforts and contact management activities
  • Stay current on bank products and services with emphasis on commercial banking

Customer Contacts

  • Achieve goals and objectives set for number, type and frequency of customer contacts
  • Maintain an accurate record of customer contacts and calls in CRM (Coretrac) system, including valuable notes to assist our sales process across all channels
  • Generate accurate expense reports and lists of new and/or potential contacts in their market area
  • Assist with customer presentations and on-site customer visits and invite business partners as needed
  • Provide support to business partners and use analysis to discover the cause and effect of specific problems
  • Address customer questions and concerns, document the conversations and take appropriate action to overcome issues; list in the Complaint Tracker with resolution

Commercial Loan Deliverables & Loan Proposals

  • Deliver accurate monthly and quarterly projections for anticipated new business volume
  • Respond promptly to all commercial banking opportunities and requests from customers and prospects
  • Consistently follow up on bank product offerings made to prospects
  • Gather and analyze basic financial and background information through meetings with commercial loan prospects
  • Determine prospect's credit worthiness and debt repayment capabilities
  • Prepare loan proposals with specific loan terms consistent with Bank's policies and procedures to discuss with loan prospects
  • Upon acceptance of loan proposal by a prospect will perform, in conjunction with the bank's credit analysts, sufficient due diligence to make loan recommendation to management

Commercial Loan Closing Management

  • Address customer questions and concerns, document the conversations and take appropriate action to overcome issues and list in the Complaint Tracker with resolution
  • Review and sign commitment letters, loan documentation, and other relevant documents, as required
  • Review attorney prepared loan documentation for completeness and conformity to the bank's policies and procedures
  • Make loan presentation to loan committee when appropriate

Compliance & Security

  • Review and follow all SBD lending policies
  • Is aware of and comply with CRA guidelines and policies, ethics policy, and the bank's non-discrimination policy; comply with banking regulations
  • Comply with BSA requirements relating to Suspicious Activity Reporting, Currency Transaction Reporting, OFAC and red flags
  • Secure all documents and confidential data following the "clean desk" policy; lock computer screen and secure equipment when leaving desk or station
  • Follow security measures for designated offices you are located in or visiting

Performance Expectations

  • Manage time and attendance by entering time off requests and approving time cards before weekly cut-off
  • Be on time for meetings both internally and externally with clients, for events, and other bank activities as a bank representative
  • Provide feedback in Threads periodically for your peers and fellow employees

Community Involvement

  • Expand network and sales opportunities by developing relationships with individuals and businesses throughout the community
  • Volunteer for at least two organizations and attend one community event per month

Compliance Training & Continuing Education

  • Attend in person training for compliance or other learning events such as webinars or continuing education opportunities
  • Complete all BVS online compliance training on or before deadlines given
 
Position Requirements

Educational and experience requirements include:

  • Bachelor's degree in business or in a relevant field or an equivalent amount of training
  • 5+ years relevant experience in a sales and commercial banking
  • Strong business development skills
  • Proven ability to profitably and accurately develop quotes/proposals for new opportunities
  • Above average written and oral communication skills to interact with customers, prospects and our internal team
  • Strong customer relationship management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to generate sales leads
  • Proficient use of Word, Excel, and CRM

While performing the duties of this job the employee:

Is regularly required to operate a computer and other office equipment, such as, a copy machine, calculator, phone, and computer printer.

Must be able to remain in a stationary position 60% of the time.

Is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as, viewing a computer terminal and determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of work assigned to self and staff.

Is required to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word to convey detailed spoken instructions to other employees accurately.

Must be able to receive detailed information through oral communication.
