Intern: MedImmune Translational Medicine Bioinformatics Scientist Intern Location: Gaithersburg, MD MedImmune is the worldwide biologics research and development arm of AstraZeneca, a global, innovation-driven biopharmaceutical business that focuses on the discovery, development and commercialization of small molecule and biologic prescription medicines. MedImmune is pioneering innovative research and exploring novel pathways across key therapeutic areas, including respiratory, inflammation and autoimmunity; cardiovascular and metabolic disease; oncology; neuroscience; and infection and vaccines. We are currently seeking candidates who are working towards obtaining a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD’s Degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Statistics or a related major for an internship during the summer of 2018. This internship opportunity is with the Translational Medicine department. The overall goal of this position will be to compile a consensus and well validated set of oncogenic and immune gene signatures to support exploration of MOA of immunotherapy drugs and identification of potential biomarkers for patient stratification. More specifically, the intern will: - Analyze BLUEPRINT and internally generated single cell RNA-Seq datasets, as well as tumor datasets to assess gene signatures curated in house and create a non-redundant set of best performance.
- {Use the consensus set of signatures to generate UBC molecular subtypes and compare with that derived directly from gene expression. Further explore the potential correlation between molecular subtypes and clinical outcomes in TCGA and internal IO data.
- Create a web application (Shiny/Jupyter) to mine UBC molecular subtypes for newly generated data
Core Responsibilities: To analyze external and internal RNA-Seq data to generate a consensus set of gene signatures that will be used by MedImmune Translational Medicine. |
