Product Transition Engineer 

Description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES includes the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Manage new product introduction and/or licensed product transitions and product support engineering for a specific product or group of products during planning, transfer and production from licensor to in-house or outsourced production. Interface with design, test, process, reliability and manufacturing engineering to solve product issues and production problems. Develop and sustain process improvements to reduce production costs and increase yields.

Support all required licensed product due diligence reviews and OEM meetings to ensure that all critical technical and manufacturing information, and tribal knowledge, is effectively captured and transferred to Extant. Work with all appropriate functions to ensure that the OEM processes are replicated, as required, to ensure the products are brought on line in accordance with the Product Adoption plans and timelines and then positioned for necessary process improvements to enhance our execution and performance.

Coordinate with Program Management, Engineering and Technical internal groups to develop strategies for improving the new products transition process and/or ensure specific technical needs per product are addressed and resolved.

Prepare project timelines and identify all technical resources requirement and evaluate financials for manufacturing processes to optimize transition value and performance.

Monitor status of all new products and ensure effective execution of projects according to required policies, procedures and government regulations. Prepare plans for all transition projects and coordinate with all stakeholders and ensure quality product.

Coordinate with Design, Component and Manufacturing Engineering and Program management departments and develop and implement Manufacturing Plans for products, to include risk mitigation, optimization of work instructions, test yield improvement initiatives, etc.

Assist Manufacturing department and manage communication across all departments.

Coordinate with Design and Test Engineering to develop product test plans and perform production test according manufacturing process instructions.

Administer efficient first release products for FAI requirements and/or for required document submission to regulatory agencies.

Assist Program Manager and manage integration of all products according to product lifecycle.

Monitor operations of product and evaluate adherence to all build and manufacture principles.

Ensure compliance to all ECO procedures, work instruction development and obsolescence policies and procedures.

Work with design engineering and assist in transition of design prototypes into cost efficient and high volume products.

Maintain an inventory and ensure availability of required equipment, tools, test equipment and required technical equipment.

Analyze and recommend improvements to all production process and methods to facilitate cost reduction and quality improvement. As necessary, lead production projects and efforts in coordination with Operations to provide overall capability, quality and throughput improvements. Act as an expert to design new manufacturing process requirements and associate guidelines.

Develop and implement efficient material handling, flow strategies and maintain safe and manufacturing processes at all times. Utilize, lead and/or facilitate Lean and Six Sigma, or other process improvement tools, in accordance with Extant CPI methods and procedures.

Coordinate with senior management and maintain knowledge on product status and prepare appropriate reports.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Prefer a 4 year degree plus a minimum of 6 years direct industry experience, 3 of which should be in New Product Indtroduction (NPI); or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Must have excellent manual dexterity and hand/eye coordination, able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, able to sit and/or stand for long periods of time, and will at times be required to work with some chemical and bonding agents.
