Intern: Medimmune Biologics Engineering

Engineering Technical Services Intern

Location: Gaithersburg, MD

MedImmune is the worldwide biologics research and development arm of AstraZeneca, a global, innovation-driven biopharmaceutical business that focuses on the discovery, development and commercialization of small molecule and biologic prescription medicines. MedImmune is pioneering innovative research and exploring novel pathways across key therapeutic areas, including respiratory, inflammation and autoimmunity; cardiovascular and metabolic disease; oncology; neuroscience; and infection and vaccines.

We are currently seeking candidates who are working towards obtaining a Bachelors degree in Engineering for an internship during the summer of 2018. This summer internship opportunity is in the Engineering Technical Services (ETS) group supporting clinical manufacturing.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Review Vendor PM plans for all tanks and skis. Ensure they align with MedI PM plans and/or manufacturers PM requirements. Develop one where needed especially for all newly acquired systems.
  • Develop ETS training plan and procedures for the Development scale-up center (DSC)

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Help with DSC projects
  • Obtain quotes and purchases spare parts and equipment, and adds parts to the SAP inventory system
  • Become a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for process equipment and systems
  • Perform troubleshooting, maintenance, and process performance optimization
  • Walk down equipment and review Piping & Instrumentation Drawings (P&IDs) for technical accuracy

 
Position Requirements

Position Requirements:

  • 2 years of undergraduate work toward a B.S. in Chemical (preferred) Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering.
  • Other technical degrees relative to Biotech and Pharmaceutical manufacturing may be considered.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • Strong interpersonal skills, outstanding verbal and written communication skills are essential.
  • Good documentation, writing and communication skills are required.
  • Prior GMP experience in a biotech manufacturing environment a plus.
  • Previous experience with fermentation/cell culture, CIP, SIP, centrifugation, filtration, chromatography, and/or operating automation systems a plus.
  • Previous experience with Preventive Maintenance programs a plus
  • Hands on mechanical, electrical and/or electronic skills a plus
