Description

This is a full-time temporary position from mid-August until late November. The school counselor is a member of the Student Health and Wellness Center staff and works in close collaboration with the Deans' Office, Director of Learning Support, the Associate Head of School, the Admission Office, and other school personnel. The George School counselor's primary responsibility is case management for students in need of social-emotional support. The school counselor is the primary contact for student mental health crisis response. The school counselor conducts initial assessments, makes referrals to outside clinicians, and may provide short-term counseling support for students struggling with adolescent life. The George School counselor communicates appropriately with providers and parents about student concerns and/or progress. The school counselor provides consultation to faculty and staff regarding psychosocial issues affecting students and general adolescent development.

Position Requirements
  • Master’s Degree in counseling or equivalent is required.

  • Experience with case management expected.

  • Experience working with adolescents required.

  • Experience as a school counselor preferred, but not required.

  • Demonstrated knowledge in such areas as developmental psychology, residential life, drug and alcohol prevention, experiential education, ethics, decision-making and relationships.

  • Discretion and ability to maintain confidentiality.

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to follow up on student cases.

  • Ability to articulate and tactfully handle inquiries from students, parents, faculty, and staff.

  • Willingness and flexibility to work additional hours particularly during the evening and on weekends.
