Intern: MedImmune – Clinical Development

Investigating Metabolic & Liver Disease Intern

Location: Gaithersburg, MD

MedImmune is the worldwide biologics research and development arm of AstraZeneca, a global, innovation-driven biopharmaceutical business that focuses on the discovery, development and commercialization of small molecule and biologic prescription medicines. MedImmune is pioneering innovative research and exploring novel pathways across key therapeutic areas, including respiratory, inflammation and autoimmunity; cardiovascular and metabolic disease; oncology; neuroscience; and infection and vaccines.

We are currently seeking candidates who are working towards obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree in Life Sciences, Engineering or a related major for an internship during the summer of 2018. This internship opportunity is with the CVMD department.

The objective of this internship is to become familiar with the basic laboratory techniques and to help elucidate the mechanism of action of glucagon on aspects of mitochondrial function and lipid homeostasis in the liver.

Core Responsibilities:

Work closely with a mentor on in vitro primary and immortal cell line assays, exploring molecular and functional readouts. Train with CVMD colleagues to learn required laboratory skills. Implement, conduct, analyze and present research findings.

 
Position Requirements

Position Requirements:

  • Preference for laboratory experience
  • Cell Culture experience
  • Basic Wet Lab Skills
  • Animal handling is a plus
  • Undergraduate Junior, Seniors and Masters level students
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0+
