About the Organization KMHS is Kitsap's nonprofit, designated community mental health provider for adults with acute and/or chronic serious mental illnesses, and children with serious emotional disturbances and their families. During 2016, KMHS provided services to more than 6,800 children and adults.

Help design and implement a school based behavioral program. To provide on-going supervision, behavioral and therapeutic support for children enrolled in the Sequoia Program at Crownhill Elementary School. To provide assistance in the implementation of the milieu program, including providing emotional support and remedial, individual, and group academic support to children. To participate as a milieu treatment team member.


  • To lead core staff in developing a cohesive team focused on the growth and development of children through the use of behavioral plans, with appropriate interventions, based upon the Circle of Courage curriculum and the Re-ED treatment model.
  • Develop individual behavior plans for each child with staff, clinical supervisor, and the Crownhill teacher. Each plan will include goals and objectives and interventions.
  • To provide a positive, structured, and therapeutic milieu in which the emotional, developmental, and educational needs of the children can be met. Work closely with team members to maintain an aesthetically pleasing and therapeutic environment.
  • Provide direct observation of children within the milieu. Participate in 1:1 interventions as necessary in order to encourage the children's compliance with program expectations. Use functional behavioral analysis to identify issues which impede the child's successful social and emotional behavior and to help create a treatment plan that addresses these issues.
  • Provide immediate, therapeutic crisis interventions as necessary.
  • Organize, implement, and lead social skills groups or other group therapy with the children enrolled in the Sequoia Program.
  • Assist with remedial and individualized academic assignments in support of the teacher.
  • Work with the team to implement behavioral programs and intervention plans. Provide input into daily summaries and level rating forms.
  • Participate in all appropriate meetings; case consultations, program staff and family meetings, and admission/discharge planning meetings as necessary.
  • Ensure that all paperwork is completed in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of positive, collaborative relationships with Bremerton school district personnel, and other public or private agencies, in order to provide an essential level of care for children, and to further and enhance the overall mission and goals of the agency.

Position Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree in counseling/psychology or related field required. Child Mental Health Specialist qualifications required. Experience working with children within the structure of an intensive, milieu based program. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Per the RCW 28A.400.303, employees of contractors with school districts that “have regularly scheduled unsupervised access to children” are required to go through FBI fingerprinting. Possess and maintain valid driver’s license with an acceptable motor vehicle report and reliable, insured transportation.

PHYSICAL CONSIDERATIONS: While performing the duties of the job, the employee is required to stand, use hands to finger or handle, reach with hands and arms, talk or listen. Requires the ability to lift up to 100 pounds. The position requires peripheral vision. The position may require working in outdoor weather conditions. A significant degree of flexibility and strength is required in this position due to the infrequent, yet essential, use of one’s limbs and body weight as a temporary means of physical restraint of some clients.
