About the Organization KMHS is Kitsap's nonprofit, designated community mental health provider for adults with acute and/or chronic serious mental illnesses, and children with serious emotional disturbances and their families. During 2016, KMHS provided services to more than 6,800 children and adults.

Location Kitsap Mental Health Services (Main Campus)  

Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in janitorial services, while performing routine cleaning of offices and public areas. Solves cleaning problems. Assigns custodian work schedules and in coordinating special cleaning jobs with Department Heads while keeping the facilities manager informed of all issues.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in janitorial services.
  • Assigns janitorial work, sets priorities daily.
  • Ensure coordination and completion of assigned work by janitorial workers.
  • Inspects work performed to ensure conformance and established standards.
  • Determines type of chemicals used and keeps the MSDS Center on janitorial products current.
  • Determines equipment necessary for specific cleaning tasks, trains crew on use of equipment. Submits work requests on equipment in need of repair.
  • Recommends personnel actions, such as hires and discharges, to ensure proper staffing. Documents performance, conducts annual performance reviews.
  • Confers with staff to resolve production and personnel problems.
  • Trains workers in janitorial methods and procedures and proper operation of equipment
  • Orders supplies and maintains inventory of supplies. Issues janitorial supplies and equipment to workers to ensure quality and timely delivery of services.
  • Follows fire safety procedures and regulations.
  • Follows all security procedures involved with keeping all facilities secured after duties are completed.
  • Operates cleaning equipment such as scrubbing machines, high speed buffers, carpet shampooer or wet and dry vacuum.
  • Identifies cleaning problems and determines appropriate remedies.

  • Efficiencies -- Keep up on new equipment, tools, training, methods, and techniques to improve efficiency and cleanliness performed by the janitorial service for KMHS.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; stoop; kneel; crouch; or crawl; and talk; or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit and climb or balance. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of cleaning methods and procedures; knowledge of the materials, supplies and equipment utilized in cleaning activities.
Licenses and Certificates
Valid Washington State Driver's License.
Working Conditions
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to occasionally loud.
