Job Summary:

The Mechanical Engineer will design mechanical hydraulic control systems per customer specifications. This position requires an Alaskan Mechanical PE License.

Essential Functions include, but are not limited to: (Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.)

  • Work on projects from pre-sale, design, R&D, manufacturing, checkout and installation.

  • Perform material take-offs and estimates.

  • Develop detailed Bills of Material (BOMs).

  • Develop design for a variety of systems including P&IDs, process flow diagrams and layout drawings.

  • Hydraulic and pneumatic control system testing and troubleshooting.

  • Maintain company standards for quality.

  • Practice safe habits around equipment and comply with all company safety requirements.

  • Maintain a safe, clean and orderly shop and work area.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Engineering Manager.

Position Requirements

Knowledge, Skills & Ability:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field.

  • Must have an Alaska Professional Engineering (PE) license in Mechanical Engineering.

  • 5-10 years Mechanical Engineering experience.

  • Experience in hydraulic control systems and/or mechanical design preferred.

  • Experience with AutoCAD is required.

  • Experience with Inventor or Solidworks programs is a plus.

  • Experience with ASME piping and welding codes.

  • Able to travel within Alaska to customer sites for surveys, startup and training. Field trips are typically less than 5 days, but can require up to two weeks.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience desired.

  • Be able to work well with others and maintain a professional environment.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and customer relation skills are a must.

  • Ability to pass misdemeanor/felony background screening.

  • Ability to pass drug screen.

  • Experience with oil industry preferred.
  • Requires a self-starter with strong leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated skill in negotiation, building consensus and achieving compromise.

  • Strong computer skills with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Strong oral and written communications skills and the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills; must be able to work independently and interact effectively with peers, customers and vendors.

  • Ability to work independently and provide solutions to technical problems.

  • Ability to adapt to changes in program schedules and priorities and apply different processes required for different customers.
  • Proven flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic working environment and ability to coordinate with multiple individuals concurrently to expedite progress.
  • Dependable attendance.

  • Must have manual dexterity to operate computer keyboard and standard office equipment.

  • Ability to work in excess of a 40-hour week if necessary.
  • Ability to sit and review information on a computer screen for long periods of time (up to 10 hours a day with lunch and breaks).
  • Must be able to withstand repetitive motion up to 10 hours a day with lunch and breaks.

Office Location and Travel:

This position is located in Anchorage, AK.

Minimal travel may be required.

Working Environment & Conditions

This position is primarily indoors, consistent with a standard office position and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. The incumbent is required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. The work load may require the incumbent to sit for extended periods of time. The incumbent must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
