Global Technical Operations Intern

Location: Gaithersburg, MD

AstraZeneca is a global, innovation-driven biopharmaceutical business that focuses on the discovery, development and commercialization of small molecule and biologic prescription medicines. AstraZeneca is pioneering innovative research and exploring novel pathways across key therapeutic areas, including respiratory, inflammation and autoimmunity; cardiovascular and metabolic disease; oncology; neuroscience; and infection and vaccines.

We are currently seeking candidates who are working towards obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Sciences, Engineering or a related major for an internship during the summer of 2018. This internship opportunity is with the Global Technical Operations department.

Objectives:

  • Improve the understanding of the stability of lateral flow immunoassays as related to the reactivity and specificity of the assay
    • Develop a robust strategy to monitor the performance of the lateral flow test by leveraging accelerated stability studies
    • Better understand the impact of temperature excursions on lateral flow test performance
    • Explore the root cause for any changes in the performance of the lateral flow assay over time and stress
  • Design and develop a simple inventory control system for critical reagents to support visibility of inventory levels and other reagent details across the organization.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Plan, execute and interpret experimental data in the lab to evaluate the performance of a lateral flow immunoassay
  • Propose a robust reagent monitoring program based on results collected in the lab.
  • Map, design and potentially develop a basic system for tracking critical reagents

 
Position Requirements

Position Requirements:

  • Preference for basic lab skills and basic laboratory techniques
  • Basic understanding Microsoft Word
  • Preference for experience with databases and data structures
  • Undergraduate Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior
  • {Minimum GPA of 3.0+
