Intern: MedImmune Formulation Sciences Formulation Sciences Intern Location: Gaithersburg, MD MedImmune is the worldwide biologics research and development arm of AstraZeneca, a global, innovation-driven biopharmaceutical business that focuses on the discovery, development and commercialization of small molecule and biologic prescription medicines. MedImmune is pioneering innovative research and exploring novel pathways across key therapeutic areas, including respiratory, inflammation and autoimmunity; cardiovascular and metabolic disease; oncology; neuroscience; and infection and vaccines. We are currently seeking candidates who are working towards obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree in Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biomedical Engineering, Chemistry or a related major for an internship during the summer of 2018. This internship opportunity is with the Formulation Sciences department. The objective of this internship is to investigate whether oxidation and deamidation of specific residues can increase the susceptibility of the protein to aggregation/SVP formation. Core Responsibilities: Primary duties will be to conduct laboratory experiments. The conformational and colloidal stability of native and preferentially oxidized and deamidated mAbs will be measured using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and dynamic light scattering (DLS), respectively. Accelerated stability studies using elevated temperatures, agitation and/or stirring will then be used to mediate aggregation/SVP formation in the native and in the chemically modified (preferentially oxidized or deamidated) mAb formulations. Samples will be analyzed for aggregate and SVP formation using size exclusion chromatography (HPSEC) and micro-flow imaging (MFI). The intern will also be responsible for maintaining detailed experimental notes, analyzing data, and presenting findings to MedImmune scientists. |
