Proteomics Intern

Location: Gaithersburg, MD

MedImmune is pioneering innovative research and exploring novel pathways across key therapeutic areas, including respiratory, inflammation and autoimmunity; cardiovascular and metabolic disease; oncology; neuroscience; and infection and vaccines.

We are currently seeking candidates who are working towards obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Biophysics or related major for an internship during the summer of 2018. This internship opportunity is with the Antibody Discovery Protien Engineering department.

Core Responsibilities:

The intern will work in the laboratory as member of the proteomics and protein biochemistry group using state-of-the-art proteomics technology. He/she will gain hands-on experience in this area. In various projects, the intern will digest proteins into peptides, if necessary label them, clean them up to get them ready for mass spectrometric analysis. The intern will then perform database searches to identify the proteins and their posttranslational modifications via bioinformatic analysis. Ideally, he/she have some experience with chromatography, mass spectrometry and proteomics. At a minimum, you have an interest in analytical chemistry and biophysical measurements.

 
Position Requirements

Position Requirements:

  • Courses in Proteomics, Mass Spectrometry, Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biophysics or related field
  • Interest in working with liquid chromatographs and mass spectrometers
  • The intern should demonstrate enthusiasm, motivation, attention to detail and willingness to learn new technologies, flexibility and confidence
  • Current undergraduate Junior, Seniors
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0+
