Role of Pattern-recognition receptors in Autoimmunity Intern

Location: Gaithersburg, MD

We are currently seeking candidates who are working towards obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology or related field for an internship during the summer of 2018. This internship opportunity is with the Respiratory, Inflammation, Autoimmunity (RIA) department.

The summer intern project will be focused on the role of TLRs with onset of Sjogren’s syndrome and on priming and activation of lymphocytes infiltrated in salivary glands. The project will include initial characterization of the TLR knockout mice by FACS, IHC, ELISA PCR and RT-PCR. The student will be able to learn: characterization of different cell subsets using FACS and analysis on Diva software; PCR and RT-PCR for genotyping and gene expression level; Immunohistochemictry IHC staining of different antigens on cells, including using of microtome for slide preparation, antibody staining, using of fluorescent microscope, analyzing of pictures by Photoshop; different types of ELISA for antibody level detection. She or he also can be involved in animal dissection and collecting of organs. Depending of the preference of the student he or she can learn all or some of listed technics.

Objectives:

The intern will be involved in characterization of the mice using technics like FACS, IHC, ELISA PCR and RT-PCR.

Position Requirements

  • Experience preferred in ELISA, PCR, RT-PCR
  • Undergraduate Junior, Seniors
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0+
