WORK OBJECTIVE

Under the direction of the Information Technology Director, responsible for managing technologies including wired/wireless networking infrastructure and firewalls, both physical and virtual machines, and Storage Area Networks (SANs), focusing on the overall security, performance, and reliability of the City's internal and external network infrastructure and systems.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Installs, maintains, and coordinates the use of the City's network systems within scope, budget, specifications and resources.
  • Manages, monitors, and troubleshoots network performance, diagnoses performance problems, and undertakes tuning activities to ensure network performance meets City requirements.
  • Performs in-depth and routine research, analysis and problem diagnosis, consults with internal and external technical staff as necessary, and repairs or replaces equipment as necessary.
  • Coordinates and implements network security measures, firmware upgrades, and software updates to protect the City's hardware, data, and software.
  • Assists with creating and maintaining documentation relating to network assets, configuration, mapping, processes, and service records.
  • Assists with installation, configuration, maintenance, and support for VMWare VSphere 5.5 environment.
  • Assists with the system operation and administration of Local Area Network servers, SANs, I-Series, GIS and other systems.
  • Assists in configuring, maintaining and troubleshooting Cisco IP telephone systems and other communication systems.
  • Works on a team responsible for responding to and resolving Help Desk tickets in a timely manner.
  • Recommends technology changes/brand standards by staying current in the industry.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in information systems, computer science, or appropriate discipline and 3 years of progressive experience in a network support position.
  • Strong knowledge of IT infrastructure technologies, processes, methodologies, and best practices, which include networking, cabling, servers, storage, telephony, and virtualization.
  • Strong, hands-on experience and knowledge in maintaining complex network infrastructure.
  • Strong, hands-on experience configuring Cisco Routers, Switches, WAPs, VLANs, and ASA Firewalls.
  • Strong, hands-on experience supporting VPN technologies.
  • Knowledge and experience supporting VMWare and various SAN technologies/providers
  • Knowledge and experience with Windows Servers, DNS, Active Directory, SCCM, DFS.
  • Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Exchange a plus.
  • CCNA/CCNA Security/CCDA preferred.
  • MCITP/MCSA preferred.
  • ITIL Foundation preferred.
  • Ability to perform Help desk support and troubleshooting for network-related, software, and hardware issues.
  • Familiarity with I-Series operating systems and applications.
  • Practical experience with PC & server hardware and software.
  • Practical experience with current desktop environments and configurations.
  • Possession of a valid state of Florida Driver's License.
  • Availability for occasional off-hours or weekend tasks.
  • Excellent problem solving/analytical skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate using patience and tact.
  • Demonstration of willingness to learn, teach and be self-motivated.
  • Ability to clearly and concisely communicate technical information to City employees of all levels of technical sophistication.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing; ability to follow complex written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to document complex processes and scenarios clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to work with multiple vendors, suppliers, or contractors when necessary.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact.
  • Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of officer related equipment, such as, but not limited to telephone, computer, calculator, copier and fax machine.
  • Required to be sufficiently mobile to respond to calls at all supported locations and move heavy computer equipment and peripherals unassisted when necessary.
  • Required to have sufficient mobility to perform duties in small spaces involving crouching, stooping, kneeling and physical ability to perform tasks requiring physical strength and finer dexterity.
  • Office atmosphere.
  • Intermittent sitting, standing, stooping, crouching, walking, lifting of light and moderately heavy objects.

The employee in this position must be able to secure and maintain a Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Clearance to include approval for controlled access to protected information.

Exceptions to the minimum qualifications must be reviewed by the Human Resources Director and approved by the City Manager prior to job offer.
